About me

When Your Situation Is Complicated
Not everyone fits a standard clinical pathway
I help adults understand themselves through specialist autism assessment and trauma therapies

I specialise in working with adults whose lives, thoughts, and feelings are complex; and who are often not understood. I offer clinical depth and compassionate insight to ensure working with me is informative and useful. My approach is flexible, thorough, and adapted to your needs.

Who I am

I am a Chartered Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I specialise in autism assessment for complex presentations and trauma-focused therapy including EMDR. I have worked clinically for 18 years in NHS services, university settings, residential care, and independent practice. My background combines direct clinical work with academic leadership: I directed a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology programme, training psychologists to doctoral level, and have contributed to The Handbook of Counselling Psychology (SAGE), and have experience as a Head of Psychology for a university department.

You are most welcome to book a free 15min initial consultation with me at https://allianceclinical.co.uk to talk through your needs confidentially. No obligations, just time to decide if I am the right person to support you

What I Can Help With

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and those seeking to understand patterns that keep repeating in their lives. Many people describe feeling stuck - perhaps anxiety that stops them doing things they want to do, low mood that makes connection feel impossible, or relationship patterns that feel familiar but unhelpful. Some people know exactly what has brought them to therapy; others have a sense that something needs to change but are not sure where to start. Both are completely fine.

I also work with trauma, supporting people who have experienced difficult events that continue to affect daily life, and I conduct autism assessments for adults seeking clarity about their neurodevelopmental profile.

How I Work

I work from a needs-led integrative stance, drawing from person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, systemic, and other approaches. What this means in practice is that therapy is tailored to what you need rather than following a fixed formula. Some people benefit from practical tools for managing anxiety or low mood. Others find it more helpful to explore underlying patterns, understand how past experiences shape present reactions, or examine relationship dynamics. Often, therapy involves a combination of these depending on what is most useful at different points.

My approach is collaborative - you are the expert on your own experience, and I bring psychological frameworks and techniques that can help make sense of it. I listen carefully to understand your particular situation, and we work together to find what actually makes a difference for you. If you are uncertain about therapy or find it hard to open up, that is normal - we can work with that rather than it being a barrier.

I maintain registration with the HCPC, hold Chartered status with the British Psychological Society, and receive regular clinical supervision. My focus is direct clinical work, where I can give full attention to the people I work with.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Further information

People often ask what actually happens in therapy. Early sessions focus on understanding what you are experiencing and what you hope might be different. From there, we develop an approach that fits your needs - sometimes practical and skills-focused, sometimes more exploratory, often a combination depending on what is most helpful at different points.

You might have weeks where progress feels clear and others where things feel harder. Both are normal. Therapy is not linear, and my role is to stay alongside you through the difficult stretches as well as the easier ones.

I work within ethical standards set by the Health and Care Professions Council and British Psychological Society, including maintaining confidentiality, working within my areas of competence, and engaging in regular supervision to support good practice.

If you have questions or want to explore whether therapy with me might be helpful, I welcome the opportunity to have that conversation. You can reach me through the contact details on this profile to arrange a free consultation.
