About me

I'm Gabby. I'm a counsellor with warmth, compassion, and an accepting nature. People most often comment on how comfortable they felt with me, not feeling judged for who they are and what they say.

I am an integrative counsellor, meaning I have amassed lots of therapeutic skills to be able to help people with an approach that suits them. I can be flexible and creative in the way we work. Primarily, I use 3 core skills: person-centred counselling, low-intensity CBT, and counselling for depression, all of which I have studied through university courses. I have further skills in ACT, Internal Family Systems, Transactional Analysis, trauma-informed therapy (not specific trauma therapy), method of levels, motivational interviewing, and bereavement work.

I have recently found myself drawn to working with people who have been diagnosed with, or suspect, autism or ADHD. I find this work incredibly rewarding, and I get to be accepting and compassionate for someone who may have experienced repeated rejection.

I have worked in an NHS-contracted service for many years, so my standards are high , the safety and wellbeing of my clients and the ethics of my work are always my top priority.

With my 10 years' experience of counselling and through my NHS work, I have helped people through most issues and heard a lot of the troubles life brings. From being a victim of a crime, abuse, insomnia, bowel problems, work issues, community problems, rejection, low self-esteem, loss, and of course more complex issues too. The issue provides me with context, for me, I explore how a person is impacted by it and how I can help reduce the distress they experience.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BSc in counselling and psychotherapy for professional practice from the University of Salford.

I completed an access course to social and community work prior to studying Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology, and Social Science.

Following this, I completed a PG Cert in Assessment and treatment of common mental health problems in primary care from the University of Manchester.

Later completed a postgraduate qualification in counselling for depression with UCLAN.

I have completed continuing professional development in day or 20-hour courses in many other therapeutic skills too.

I also have a supervisor qualification with the University of Manchester.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
