Counselling, Relationship & Sex Therapy /MBACP & COSRT Reg/

About me

In order to fly, all one must do is simply miss the ground - writes Douglas Adams. You will find an attuned, compassionate, therapeutic environment, where there is warmth, empathy, an active interest in your needs and strengths, as well as acceptance of, all of your experiences. I seek to provide containment for pain and distress that you may be going through so that you feel safe to open up and explore options for your complex life challenges.

I am a Cambridge-based, BACP- & COSRT-registered relationship therapist, couples/family counsellor & psychosexual therapist, initially trained as a psychologist in Budapest, and with 15 years of work experience in the UK.

I welcome people from all backgrounds, sexualities and types of relationship or no relationship, for both short-term and long-term, in person or online counselling and psychotherapy.

Relationship matters are what currently brings most to my practice. For example, people experiencing circular arguments with significant others, unhelpful patterns of interactions, loneliness, and disconnection, either in the presence of a partner or by themselves. This can include not feeling heard, lack of warmth and affection, sexual difficulties, and intimacy as well as the impact of affairs. Living scripts that resonate with those experienced in the environments that shaped us, can lead to repetition, attempts to correct or feeling stuck.

Drawing on a variety of Systemic and other therapeutic approaches (such as Compassion Focused, Cognitive Behavioural, Brief Solution Focused, Transactional Analysis, Neuorsequential Model of Therapeutics, Dyadic Developmental Practice) I facilitate thinking together, guided by your expectations and desired outcomes from therapy. By use of bio-psycho-social science of healing and emotional-mental well-being, we will foster coping skills, resilience and seek to bring about positive changes in your lived experience.

Training, qualifications & experience

I first graduated with a degree in business, then trained as a psychologist in Budapest.

Following a move to Cambridge, for the past 15 years, I have worked within the Children and Families wing of Cambridgeshire County Council, for Cogwheel Trust Counselling Service and, with Atrium Clinic and Therapy Centre. This involves having worked therapeutically with families and individuals with complex needs, ranging from relational, most commonly trans-generational trauma, diagnosed mental health problems and neuro-developmental conditions (most of all adults living with Mild/High Functioning Autism Spectrum Condition as well as children, living with Moderate ASC), to the influence of domestic abuse and the impact of socio-economic inequalities.

For the past 4 years, as a Specialist Clinician at Cambridgeshire County Council Fostering and Adoption Services, I offer trauma-informed therapeutic support to foster carers, adoptive parents, Looked After Children and their schools, as part of the Clinical Team. Through clinical consultations with social workers, we promote neuroscience-informed, relational therapeutic work to support healing from developmental trauma.

For the past 7 years, I also worked for Relate Cambridge, as a Family and Couples Counsellor and, for the past 4 years, also as a Psychosexual Therapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
