About me

Life can sometimes feel stressful and be really challenging.  Many of us experience some form of anxiety and depression, which can affect our personal relationships and everyday life.  You may be feeling overwhelmed, confused and struggling to cope with your emotions and mental health?  Talking about how you’re feeling can really help and bring clarity and peace of mind.  I have been counselling since 2007, offering Person-Centred counselling for adults and young people to manage some of the hurt, stresses and strains that occur in daily life.   I offer you a safe, comfortable and private environment to explore your feelings without any expectations or judgements, enabling you to develop greater understanding and self awareness.  I passionately believe that nature and the outdoors can have a vastly positive effect on our mental well-being.  So  I also offer ‘walk & talk’ therapy, which can be more comfortable for some people as opposed to sitting together face to a face.

Training, qualifications & experience

As well as bringing empathy, respect and honesty to our sessions, I also offer a vast amount of personal knowledge and experience in the shape of 18 years of counselling (including bereavement, anxiety and depression, low self esteem, relationship issues, OCD and Autism) being a foster carer for over 17 years, a mother of four healthy grown children and having a Masters degree in Social Work.  I also have personal lived experience of dealing with and surviving triple negative breast cancer and the crippling effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the immense physiological trauma that goes with it.

I also have vast experience of working with young people through working at a local charity for the past 20 years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
