About me

Hello and a warm welcome, my name is Emma and I'm a Person-Centred Counsellor. I'm likely not the only profile you've looked at during your search, so well done for persevering, I hope whether it ends up being with me or another counsellor you find the support you need.

Whether you prefer telephone, online or face-to-face counselling, or simply don't know what format you'd prefer your sessions to be in, I'm adaptable.

If you prefer to be outside and moving how about walk & talk, or if you struggle to be anywhere but your home and prefer face-to-face we can discuss that option.

I appreciate how hard it can be to trawl through endless profiles, trying to decide who might understand and fit well with you, from a picture and a few lines of text. In my experience looking at the counsellors website can give you a good idea about the person, and an introductory call helps get a feel for the person from their tone of voice and manner. So when you feel ready please do get in touch and let's see if we're a good fit for each other.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, Diploma in Psychology, and I'm a registered member of the BACP.

I have completed extensive domestic abuse training with WAVES Counselling Project, and continue to work with them.

  • I've completed ASIST training, I'm suicide aware and ready to listen.
  • Practical management of PTSD
  • Dual Diagnosis Awareness
  • Pornography and Youth Produced Sexual Imagery and the legalities
  • Internet, suicide and self-harm training webinar
  • Working with Childhood Trauma
  • Food and Mood workshop
  • Menopause and Mental Health Workshop
  • Working with Anger
  • Dementia Awareness Workshop
  • Autism & ADHD Awareness

I've worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds, each unique and approaching counselling for various reasons. Whether it be past trauma, current family or relational issues, work, confidence, body image, abuse, anxiety, studies, sexuality, DID, housing, gender, addiction, health, etc.

Whether you're looking for long or short term counselling, our work together will be dependent on your needs and therapeutic journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

For our first session I offer a 25% reduction, £33 instead of £45.

I do this for two reasons, firstly it can be daunting to meet a counsellor for the first time, and I hope this helps you feel up to taking that initial step and see how you get on. Secondly at the beginning of our first session we'll go through the contract together, and any questions you may have since our introductory call. The rest of the hour is open for you, you may wish to discuss what brought you to counselling, or what's going on for you currently, or some background, it's what you feel up to sharing at the time.

I also offer bulk booking discount for 6 sessions: £240 for individuals, £300 for couple's.

Please enquire regarding concessionary rates.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I have use of a variety of different venues and will ensure the room and building are selected based on each individuals accessibility needs.
