About me

Hi, I am Emma. I am a straight forward, calm, empathic counsellor. In my life I have experienced many things, both good and not-so-good. I am not going to pretend I have been in your shoes, but I will listen and understand. I can promise that you are not alone.

What has brought you here today? Anxiety? Feeling low? Maybe you are struggling to come to terms with a loss? Is your work situation affecting you? Are you having relationship problems or issues with a family member or colleagues? Sometimes an event can leave you reeling, not knowing where to turn.

When you are hit by strong feelings about any issues, they can dominate your thoughts, preventing sleep, concentration and basic decision-making abilities. They can knock your confidence, self-esteem, and make you feel helpless and out of control. If this is left unchecked it can quickly affect your ability to function as you would like to.

I offer online and telephone counselling to adults (18+) all over the UK. If you are local to me, I can arrange to visit you at home for in-person counselling. I also offer evening and weekend sessions.

I am offering you a safe, non-judgmental, confidential space in which you can air your concerns, worries, problems. My goal is to make you feel heard, and work towards empowerment to get you where and who you want to be.

Taking the first step to being heard is the biggest and most difficult one! Why not get in touch and start that journey today?

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

How do I work?

If you reach out to me, I will first arrange to call you for an informal free chat. It is important that we both feel comfortable and compatible to work together for a positive outcome.

During the initial consultation, I will ask you a few questions about your current concerns and how they are affecting everyday life, and what your goals and expectations are from counselling. There is no need for detail at this point, we will have time for that later!

If we are both happy to proceed, I will send you a contractual agreement. This is designed to set out professional boundaries, expectations and terms of contact both in and beyond our sessions. Once you have agreed to these we can book your first session. Please note that I require payment to secure your sessions, 24 hours in advance. Without this, the session will not go ahead.

I will review our work regularly and check in with you about how you feel you are progressing.

You and your physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing are my absolute priority at all stages of your therapy.

Sessions

Our sessions will ideally be weekly, at least to begin with as this allows rapport to be built. I will endeavour to make you feel heard and understood without any judgement. I will help you tap into skills you may or may not know you already possess to help you feel more in control of your life.

Professional Supervision and Development

I attend monthly supervision for my own personal development and to ensure that I am operating as ethically and professionally as possible.

I am committed to my own professional development and training and am currently studying for a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
