About me
Hello, and welcome to Southland Counselling. My name is Emma.
Deciding that you want to begin counselling is a big step, and I am here to hold that journey with you. I work with adults, offering a safe and confidential space where you will be seen and heard with empathy and without judgement, allowing you to freely explore what is happening with you.
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor, and this means that we will build an authentic and reflective therapeutic relationship that will foster your self-awareness and clarity in a sensitive way, and at your pace. I will actively and compassionately be alongside you as you explore what you bring to your sessions, inviting you to notice and be curious about what comes up for you. I will support you in making sense of what your experiences mean to you, and in learning a deeper understanding of yourself.
I feel that counselling can work because it does not seek to evaluate people in line with psychological theories or labels, it makes contact with the human in the person. It acknowledges you as an individual with unique ways of experiencing what happens, and how it is to be you. It is through the conditions of the counselling relationship, and your deepening awareness and acceptance of yourself that you can find your way to grow personally, and to become empowered to make the changes you wish for and create a more fulfilling life.
How I can help
Counselling can help with an array of presenting issues. You may need a space to talk about and process your current or historical life experiences. You may be facing personal challenges. You may need support in navigating a major life change. You may be feeling lost or stuck with no clear path in sight. I will be a warm and steady presence as you explore what you bring to your space.
In counselling you will discover yourself and you will develop on a personal level. I will be with you on this journey as we explore what this means for you, and I will support you as you bring expression to who you are.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
