About me

Hello, my name's Emma. I am an experienced, fully qualified, BACP Accredited counsellor working in private practice in Aberystwyth. I hold a professional Clinical Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and I have undergone various additional trainings.

I'm passionate about offering a safe and welcoming space where you can bring every part of yourself - whoever you are and whatever you're facing.

Sessions last around 50-60 minutes are are priced at £60. If you have concerns about affordability, please let me know. I'm sometimes able to offer concessions to students and those on a low income.

Professional training and experience:

Originally trained in Psychodynamic Counselling, with an emphasis on unconscious processes and early childhood experiences, I help clients reflect on how past experiences may shape life today, and how new choices can emerge. I often integrate a combination of approaches into our work, including Rewind Therapy, solution focussed techniques, Gestalt therapy, person centred counselling, coaching and CBT techniques, tailor made to what works best for you.

Working style:

I am friendly and relatable, believing that the relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to healing and positive change. I work collaboratively and compassionately, offering psychological exploration and emotional support, helping you gain more control of your life. I will not judge you or tell you what to do. Instead I will listen, reflect back and ask questions, helping you to achieve greater clarity, understanding and empowering you to overcome the difficulties you are facing.

Areas of interest:

Experienced in working with a wide range of emotional problems, I am particularly interested in issues surrounding family and relationships, creating healthy boundaries, work/life balance, self care, sexuality, negative thinking, anxiety and low self esteem.  A key part of my work is encouraging personal empowerment - helping you feel more confident, capable, and free to make choices that work for you.

I warmly welcome LGBTQ+ clients, and I have experience supporting neurodiverse, non binary, and trans people. I am sex positive and kink aware.

As a mother, I am also passionate about working with women and men who are struggling with problems relating to parenthood, pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal depression. It can be such a wonderful yet stressful time with so many changes and pressures and I feel it is so important to have a safe space to talk and get the support you need.

Getting started:

Please phone or email me if you have any questions or would like to arrange an initial consultation. I'd love to hear from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
