About me
Welcome, and thank you for stopping by.
Are you seeking support to work through trauma, abuse, loss, or a significant life change? It’s completely normal to feel unsure or overwhelmed when considering counselling. I offer a warm, grounded space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace. When helpful, I share practical strategies and insights — always in a down-to-earth way.
I’m a Masters-level qualified counsellor, trained in the person-centred approach, and I work integratively to tailor support around what suits you best.
Finding the right therapist is a personal journey. That’s why I offer a free 30-minute phone call before we book a first session — it gives us both the opportunity to see whether we're the right fit. You can call, text, email, or use the online booking link. We'll talk through the best path forward — whether that’s working together, trying a different approach, or connecting with other services, including charities and support organisations.
How I work:
I offer professional, approachable and affordable counselling and psychotherapy.
You are at the centre of the therapy. How we work together is dependent on your unique, individual needs, and what you want from our time together.
These are some areas we could explore:
- How difficulties are impacting on you now.
- Processing your feelings around current and past events.
- How your childhood and past has impacted on the present.
- Using mindfulness and grounding techniques, to help you quickly develop greater coping strategies.
- What you want your life and experience to be like now, and what would enable you to achieve this.
- Your strengths and ambitions.
At your own pace, in a safe environment, we will explore your inner world and the external events that have shaped your life. My aim is not to give advice but to work collaboratively with you to uncover your own solutions and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. This journey will help you achieve greater peace and become the person you truly aspire to be.
Free Introductory session:
To help you decide if we are a good fit, I offer a free 30-minute introductory session by phone or on line, with no obligation.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.

A little about me...
Counselling is for me a second career. I was brought up on a farm, and have had a lengthy career primarily working as a District Nurse, providing care to those with long term physical and mental health conditions, as well as providing palliative care, and supporting carers. I have also supported loved ones with enduring mental and physical health issues and addiction, and am 'suicide bereaved'- all of which helps me to be alongside others, recognising not only the tremendous challenges faced, but the courage it takes to reach out, to work with another towards change.
I bring genuine warmth, understanding and 'plain speaking' to issues including depression, loss, trauma, and surviving abuse. I believe our circumstances, and how we deal with them, have a profound impact on who we are.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I have a particular interest in working with individuals who have experienced abuse, trauma and loss, whether from specific events in later life, or the impact of their earlier years. As children, we often develop strategies, which we may not be fully aware of. These may serve us well at the time but may become less helpful later in life. It is my privilege to work with you to explore your own, unique, inner world, and help you realize your potential.
I offer face to face sessions in Barrow, Kendal, or in the comfort of your own home. Alternatively, we can talk by phone or online - do get in touch and we can find a way to meet your specific needs.
