About me
Hi, I'm Emily. I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Gateshead, UK.
Life can be tough - whether that is because of loss, a complex illness, losing a job, or just feeling like something isn't right.
I understand feeling like anxiety might never go away, or the dark, relentless clouds of depression. And I know that there is a way out of that place.
I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to find peace and happiness in their lives. I offer a warm, compassionate counselling service tailored to your needs. I am based in Low Fell, Gateshead, UK.
What will therapy look like
Starting therapy can be nerve-racking, and I want to make sure that the experience is as easy and comfortable for you as possible.
To begin with, I will do a short 15-minute introductory call to get to know you. This will give you a chance to see if you feel I am the right fit for you.
If you decide to go ahead with therapy, sessions will either be in-person at the Osteopathy and Therapy Clinic in Low Fell, Gateshead or online.
Every person is different, and every therapy session is different. I am an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, therefore I have a wide range of techniques in my toolbox that I can use, from traditional talking therapy to drawing, using clay or exploring feelings through sand tray.
I use a Person Centred Approach, meaning that we work together to ensure you get what you need out of the sessions.
My core model is Transactional Analysis, and I bring in Gestalt Techniques, as well as Mindfulness and CBT.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been a counsellor for two years with FACT Cancer Support and specialise in supporting people through illness, grief, and caring responsibilities.
I have a diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Northern Guild, and I am a registered member of the BACP.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am a specialist in working with the impact of cancer - including people currently undergoing treatment, dealing with complications after treatment, people who are taking on caring responsibilities or people dealing with bereavement.
I believe that even in the most difficult of circumstances, counselling can alleviate symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety.
