About me

Hello, my name is Emily.

Thank you for stopping by to read all about the counselling I offer. I understand how overwhelming it can be searching through all these profiles to pick someone to work with, it often takes a lot of courage to get this far.

I will tell you a little about myself below but if you would like to know more and speak to me over the phone, then drop me an email and we can have a chat.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and with over 9 years of training and experience I am able to work with most mental health issues such as; anxiety, depression, worrying, fears, low self esteem, low self worth or just generally feeling you would like some guidance in where to go with life. I have also have experience and training working with Autism and ADHD. Overall there are many reasons people seek therapy, maybe you feel sad, have panic attacks, struggle with social anxiety or struggling with family and relationship issues?

The counselling I provide is a warm, safe and non-judgmental environment for you to explore whatever has brought you into counselling. Being an integrative counsellor means I am trained in a range of therapeutic practices which are; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred and Psychodynamic which can be tailored to your needs. Being an integrative therapist means I can offer flexibility with the different therapeutic models. An example of how this could look is you would start your sessions talking about situations and the feelings they have brought up. You may then decide to look towards what could have caused these feelings, begin to look for ways to cope or challenge any negative thoughts or behaviours. Also with the use of guided imagery and relaxation we could help build more confidence with any goals you would like to achieve. Or you may choose just one of the models which you feel would best fit for you.

But overall I think most of the clients I have worked with over the years would describe me as being really down to earth and easy to talk to, I put them at ease very quickly and they have just felt it helpful having someone listen and not judge.

Online sessions are available at a reduced rate as well as block bookings for student counsellors where there is a course requirement for personal counselling.

A little about why I decided to become a counsellor. Having experienced what it felt like to be totally overwhelmed with negative self worth and low self esteem, seeing a therapist I was able to work through all the things that were bothering me and to enable me to feel free and allow me to live my life to the fullest. Going to see a counsellor was such a positive experience for me that I felt inspired to want to help others. It is because I have been where you are that I understand how hard it can be to make the first move to try therapy and open up to a complete stranger.

Here is some of the feedback I have received from other clients

"I spent ages looking through profiles trying to pick the right counsellor, you looked liked someone I thought I could connect with and I was so happy I picked you. I have suffered for many years with my mental health and find I can overthink and worry.. A LOT! But talking to you helped me understand my worries and find ways to deal with them. Now I hardly worry at all and when I do, I feel more confident to deal with them. Thank you Emily." - PF

"When I went through my breakup with my ex I thought I would never get over it but talking to you helped me realise lots of things. Now I don't feel so bad anymore, I actually feel good about myself again. Thanks H"

"I felt like I could tell you anything, no matter how big or small and like talking about all my issues made them not feel as though they were weighing me down anymore." - JM

"I was recommended counselling by a friend who said it would help me move on and find me again. I was at a cross roads and didn't know which way to go next. But talking to you helped me realise what I really want from my life and gave me confidence to take chances I wouldn't have done before. I will definitely recommend you to my friends." - Sarah

"Coming to see you has made me feel like the light has come back to my life again. Some of the things I told you I have never told anyone before but it really helped to open up. " - TG

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
