About me
Thank you for being here and taking the time to find out more — I'm Elaine, and I am here as a compassionate and open support for whatever you may be facing.
This is an inclusive space where all adults have the opportunity to feel safe throughout their personal exploration; where they know this, potentially vulnerable, space is protected by a qualified, registered and trauma-informed counsellor.
I believe that effective therapy recognises whatever feels most significant to you –– whether that’s untangling a specific difficulty or pattern, making sense of overwhelming emotions, or having the opportunity to openly talk and explore. My role is to create an environment where you are empathetically understood, crucially without judgement, so you feel encouraged to inquire into and resolve the pain or complexity you may be here for.
Clients often tell me they feel more at ease than they expected in therapy and that they value, even enjoy, our time together. I work especially well with those who already appreciate the therapeutic process, as well as those who feel apprehensive about starting or have had disappointing past experiences with therapy.
My approach
Every person’s experience is individual, and so is the way we will work together. For some, this involves talking things through (a lot or a little); for others, it might mean exploring ideas visually, whether through metaphor or creative expression. Whilst in no way necessary, creative exploration is a natural approach for me and, if it resonates with you, it can often uncover deeply held beliefs and patterns that are ready to be re-examined. However you prefer to process and express yourself, I will meet you where you are, and together we will take it step by step.
My practice is within the person-centred approach (as extensively developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940-80’s, and by many researchers and practitioners thereafter) –– sitting apart from the diagnostic and clinical perception of some therapy practices, a person-centred approach is nurturing of human to human connections that create a compassionate environment for your open expression and honest dialogue. Put simply, this is a space to allow yourself –– expressing what feels right or possible, at your own pace and depth –– met with reflective support and wholehearted belief in your capacity.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
