About me

A warm, inclusive, and trauma-informed space where adults can feel safe to navigate their individual experience — Complication, upset, abuse, challenge, hope, love, intimacy, grief, anger, depression, fear, panic, connection, yearning, withdrawal, hiding, loss, joy, doubt, curiosity, desire, shame, embarrassment, courage, defeat, frustration, hurt and relief.

Whatever has brought you here, my role is to provide a secure human to human environment where you feel supported and understood, crucially without judgement or bias, so you can process and develop your own experiences, at your own pace, with a qualified and compassionate practitioner. Many clients notice they feel surprisingly at ease in our sessions, especially if previous therapy has felt unhelpful or unsafe.

My approach
The way we work and relate will be adapted to you. For some, this means talking things through (a little, or a lot); for others, it might include exploring ideas visually. I do believe therapeutic challenge and exploration is an important part of development, and that this can happen when a trusted space is created between us. I value the process of uncovering what best supports your time here.

My practice is within the person-centred approach; this is used across NHS and private settings as a talk-based solution that supports lasting insight and change.

Whilst I work with differing needs, I have specialist training and experience working with sexual assault and domestic abuse; I am proud to work as a counsellor for CLEAR (formally CRASAC), a Cornwall-based charity who aims to support those affected by these experiences.

Trauma-responsive and trained, personal and lived experience affirming, and open to conversations around intimacy and sexuality. I’m committed to sensitivity, respect and awareness around identity, culture, race, faith, disability, and lived experience.

The Practice
Offering face to face, video, and telephone sessions from my counselling practice in Redruth, Cornwall (near to Portreath). The room, located in a calm commercial building, is welcoming, with properly comfy armchairs, and a desk for any creative work. The view from the picture-window is of the trees, sky, and the sweet nesting jack-daws. Clients often express their enjoyment of the space.

My key areas of experience include: trauma (especially relational and behavioural patterns), abuse and assault, grief, anxiety and depression, suicidal thoughts, anger and hopelessness. I am also passionate about working with those who do not have specific difficulty but would like a safe space to reflect and explore.

I also practice as a counsellor within CLEAR (formerly CRASAC), a charity providing emotional support to those affected by sexual abuse, violence, and traumatic crime.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
