About me

Can you imagine understanding what is going in your head? Sometimes it can feel like a maze, on repeat, and filled with thoughts you just want to 'STOP'! You may feel it’s hard to just keep your head above water?

Hi - I’m Elaine and as a Person Centred Counsellor. I can help you to untangle your thoughts and help you to discover new options and perspectives…because having someone to guide you in a safe, friendly space (ie ...me!) can make all the difference.

I have worked in various counselling organisations with clients from 8 to 80. I have also trained and worked with JustB as a bereavement support worker. At my age, I inevitably bring so much life and professional experience to my practice. From navigating bringing up children (somehow!), moving with them around the globe (why?), surviving 30 years experience of working in the education system (for my sins!), and going through those dreaded life transitions which happen as you get older (being a carer and experiencing the loss of loved ones). I’ve seen how grief, anxiety, and other personal struggles can show up so very differently in different people. So seeing these issues from my client’s perspective (not my own), and looking on them without any judgement, helps them feel more understood. Regardless of their background or situation.

How Can I Help?
Previous clients have come to me with a variety of difficulties including relationship issues, family communication issues, suffering with exam or work anxiety, coping with being stalked, eating disorders and coping with loss of loved ones and grief. Providing a compassionate and thoughtful space for self-discovery, I have helped them unpack their current coping strategies to understand their thoughts, behaviours and emotions at a deeper level. This really  can create a turning point for them. Understanding that each person has different experiences, my approach allows me to use different techniques that I can adapt to best suit your needs.

What Therapy With Me Looks Like
If you’re wondering what a therapy session will be like, don’t worry ..... you don’t have to have everything figured out. The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. I’ll listen to you to help understand your concerns ..... together we’ll discuss and identify your goals for therapy. It’s not about "getting it perfect", it’s about starting the conversation and getting to know each other.. Many people feel relief from just talking to me and having someone to listen and understand them. That’s often the first step toward feeling better. Plus, it’s completely okay to take things at your own pace ..... there’s no pressure to open up all at once.

Is Therapy Right for You?
Conclusion: You Deserve Support
Remember, taking the first step toward therapy is a big achievement. You deserve to feel supported, understood, and cared for.

If you’re ready to take that step, don’t hesitate to reach out by email and I'll call you back—I'm here to help  and I am very happy to chat with you!

Therapy can be the start of a wonderful journey toward healing and personal growth. You’ve got this ..... and I’m here to help.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
