About me
Hi, I'm Will. I'm a highly trained and experienced clinical psychologist, having worked as a senior psychologist and borough lead for a specialist NHS mental health team. I have a successful record of helping people with anxiety, depression, trauma, loneliness, low self esteem, and hopelessness who have found standard therapy and medication to be unhelpful. I help people to recognise and respond to experiences that previously felt overwhelming and untouchable. I realise that for some people, sitting in an office is very challenging. So, as well as offering standard in person and online therapy, I also work outdoors with people, walking side by side.
I use three therapies: Ecotherapy, ACT, and DBT. Ecotherapy connects us to the world and our place in it. ACT helps us to find meaning and then do what we need to, even when it feels hard. DBT teaches us clear and effective skills to manage difficult emotions and behaviours. With these 3 you can connect to the world, yourself, and build a life worth living.
London has lots of great green spaces. I mainly work out of Hampstead Heath and the Walthamstow Wetlands. I also have an office in Broadway Market that allows for more standard therapy with the option of going for a walk along the canal or to nearby parks. If you're interested in trying something different, I encourage you to get in touch - I'm happy to talk.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a clinical psychologist. I grew up in the UK and completed an Honours Degree in Neuroscience at The University of Edinburgh. Later I moved to the USA and did my clinical psychology training at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. There I largely worked with people experiencing significant mental health issues alongside homelessness.
It quickly became apparent to me that the standard approach to therapy - two people sitting in a room - does not work well for everyone. I realised the importance of connection and how standard approaches to treatment can unintentionally get in the way of this. I began to specialise in approaches that prioritise building connections and started taking my work out of the office and into nature.
In my final year of training, I had the opportunity to develop a new program of services for a shelter for female survivors of domestic violence. This program was built around time spent together in the shelter's garden and in their communal spaces - talking, doing art together, and building community.
Later, during a postdoctoral fellowship working with military veterans, I further developed my approach to include practicing mindfulness in nature and supporting the veterans to design and implement their own treatment programs.
Since then I have moved back to the UK and worked for five years in a highly specialist NHS service, spending two of those years as borough lead. While there I worked on building ACT, Ecotherapy, and community-based practices into my team. I was also the clinical lead for a trust-wide redesign of services for individuals with Complex Emotional Needs.
I have trained further in ACT and am now an honorary lecturer with UCL on the CBT for Personality Disorder Certificate Program. I have also completed further training in Ecotherapy.
I now bring all my expertise from years of working with people who are wrestling with severe and enduring mental health issues to the general public through my private practice.

Further information
To live well, we need connection. We need to be connected to ourselves, to people that matter to us, and to the world that we live in. Without these connections we can easily slip into feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and deep loneliness.
The therapy that I provide is focused on building and deepening connection. We will work together to help you identify what matters to you and how the disconnects between your thoughts, feelings, and environment are holding you back. After that, we work actively to rebuild and move forward again.
