About me

I have a particular specialism in addiction, with over a decade of experience supporting both individuals struggling with addictive behaviours and families affected by a loved one’s addiction. I understand that addiction is rarely just about the behaviour itself, and we can explore the emotional, relational and psychological experiences that may sit beneath it, including trauma, shame, difficulties with self-esteem and patterns of codependency. My approach is integrative, relational & trauma-informed, & I tailor therapy to you rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Alongside addiction, I work with anxiety/ depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, BPD, ADHD and autism. Together, we can develop a deeper understanding of the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

I understand that reaching out for support can feel difficult, particularly when you have been struggling for some time or feel stuck in patterns that are hard to change. My aim is to offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel genuinely heard and understood and work towards change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have gained extensive experience supporting individuals with a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma and complex trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, personality disorders, emotional dysregulation, and neurodiversity. I have particular clinical interests in addiction, trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Conditions.

I have experience and training across a range of therapeutic approaches and draw on models such as Person-Centred Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic approaches, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Schema Therapy. Where appropriate, I also integrate somatic and body-based techniques, particularly when working with trauma, to support emotional regulation, mind-body awareness, and a greater sense of safety and self-compassion.

I have particular experience working with complex trauma and personality difficulties, including supporting individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). In this work, I draw on evidence-based and relational approaches to help clients better understand their emotional and behavioural patterns, develop healthier ways of regulating difficult emotions, strengthen relationships, build resilience, and work towards meaningful and sustainable change.

Alongside my therapeutic practice, I have held senior clinical and service-development roles, including managing a multidisciplinary clinical team within a psychiatry department. In this role, I worked closely with consultant psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals and contributed to specialist ADHD assessment pathways, collaborative treatment planning, and the development of clinical services.

I also have specialist experience in neurodevelopmental assessment and have worked extensively alongside psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams supporting individuals with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Conditions. I am trained in administering a range of recognised diagnostic and screening measures, including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) for children and adults, Conners assessments, the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA), and QbCheck. I have also contributed to broader cognitive assessments as part of comprehensive multidisciplinary diagnostic evaluations.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My professional experience also extends to the charitable sector, where I served as both a Trustee and Co-Manager of an organisation supporting individuals and families affected by addiction. Through this work, I developed extensive experience supporting people navigating complex family and relationship dynamics, including codependency, domestic abuse, personality difficulties, and the wider impact of addiction on partners and family members. I have also been involved in addiction research, which has further strengthened my commitment to evidence-based psychological care.
