About me

Do you feel overwhelmed by the everyday challenges of life? Do you struggle to relax and get a good night’s sleep, because your mind won’t switch off and you’re spiralling with anxiety? Or perhaps you’re lacking energy and motivation, with life feeling like a constant chore rather than a joy.

I’m Debbie, and I am here to help you relieve your distress, and create more ease and joy in your life. I think we all have our struggles and can sometimes wonder, “what’s wrong with me?” or “why does everyone else find it so easy?” Or sometimes a specific life event, like the loss of a loved one, redundancy, relationship break-up, or kids moving away, knocks us sideways and we just feel stuck. I’m here to say, you don’t have to struggle alone.

Counselling provides a safe space to talk about what’s going on for you, where you can speak freely, and not worry about being judged or getting unwanted advice. Instead, we gently explore your issues, at a pace that suits you. This helps us make sense of your problems and figure out how to resolve things, so that life doesn’t feel so challenging.

I know from my own experience, that counselling can feel daunting. For many of us, the thought of opening up to a stranger or talking about things you’d rather leave buried fills us with dread. So, as your counsellor, I try to make the process feel easier by being warm, welcoming and down-to-earth. I also recognise that we’re all at different stages on our journey and have different goals from counselling, so I adapt my approach to suit your specific needs.

I work with a wide range of issues, including but not limited to: Anxiety, Depression, Bereavement, Low Self-Esteem, Relationship Issues, Stress, Trauma, and PTSD. I also have experience of working with clients who have been diagnosed with personality disorders, ADHD or Autism. Alongside my practice, I work at an agency supporting survivors of Sexual Trauma and Domestic Abuse, which means I am sensitive to the additional needs of working with complex trauma and keeping my clients safe.

If you would like to find out more about how I could support you, please get in touch using one of the links at the top of this page, or go ahead and book an intro call.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and remember you don’t have to struggle alone.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
