About me

Hello and welcome. I work with many issues such as self esteem, confidence, anger, depression, loss, anxiety and many other issues that affect ALL of us human beings.

My philosophy of counselling is that it is very similar to going to the dentist, doctor or any other professional.

If you had a niggling pain in your tooth or elsewhere would you seek help immediately or ignore it in the hope it goes away?? If the pain increased and was now regular and deeper would you seek help then?? Or would you wait until it was persistent, deep and affecting your everyday life?? If you would seek help sooner rather than later for this external pain, then why would you wait to seek help for an internal pain that won't go away??

The answer in all cases would probably be fear!! Fear of what might be discovered and what might need to be done..... I understand this fear and will do my best to reassure you that the exploration of your discomfort or pain, would be at your own pace and in a respective and gentle manner.

I am a qualified and BACP Accredited Counsellor and qualified Supervisor. I work in a warm, respectful and non judgemental way with people of varying ages, experiencing all manner of lifes difficulties. I have extensive generic counselling experience and welcome enquiries from anyone who believes they have a problem however large or small that maybe.

I started my counselling career at a Further Education College predominately with teenagers but also with adults as part of the Staff Counselling service. I enjoyed this work and was there for approx 7 years until I was made redundant.

I now work from home where I have my own thriving private practice working with adults and teenagers (from 12 yrs up) and am very experienced in dealing with a huge variety of issues. My particular areas of interest are issues around anger and those living with the illness of depression. But I enjoy working with all manner of difficulties that people are experiencing. A six week anger management course done within the therapeutic setting that I use, has been very successful with young and older people alike.

I taught for Adult Education for many years at Diploma and other levels. I now run my own training organisation in partnership with my good friend and colleague in Maidstone, specialising in high quality teaching of the CPCAB Therapeutic Diploma.
Being a Tutor helps me to engage with the next generation of Counsellors which is a privilege, a challenge and a joy.

I work as a Humanistic/person centred counsellor and use aspects of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and also TA (transactional analysis). I have also done some training and work in mediation.

I am passionate about my work and the people I come into contact with and I get great pleasure in assisting others to manage their life in a way that is more productive for them.

I originally (many years ago) trained as a Nursery Nurse and worked for families around Kent and London. Then diversified and did other things for a while before eventually training as a Counsellor. I have three grown up children (two given birth to and my son who came into my life when he was 7). I enjoy the complexity of family life and the extended family that come from having a step child. My own life has been complex and not without difficulties; so I have my own personal experiences to draw on as well as my training background and years of experience.

If you continue to read my profile you will see that I charge £45 an hour. If you cannot afford this do not let it put you off. Please do not hesitate to contact me as I am always willing to discuss and negotiate my fee with those that genuinely feel they need counselling and are facing financial difficulties.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
