About me
Finding the right therapist can feel daunting, especially if you’ve spent years feeling like you have to explain yourself before you can even begin. In our work together, you won’t need to justify how you feel, or talk or act in a certain way. I believe that understanding yourself is one of the most valuable things you can do. I don’t believe therapy is about fixing yourself or changing yourself to become someone different. It’s about exploring and discovering who you actually are, and finding your own way forward from there.
The type of therapy I offer is known as person-centred therapy. At its heart, this means I don’t sit across from you pretending to be the expert on your life – you are. My role isn’t to judge, direct you, or tell you what to do, but to provide a space where you feel genuinely heard and supported to figure things out in your own time.
If you would like to reach out, I offer a free 15-minute informal chat by phone or video call, where we can discuss what you would like to get out of counselling, you can ask any questions, and then can decide if you want to proceed with an initial appointment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and I have worked with York Mind, alongside the NHS, City of York Council, and York Carers Centre, at York’s Wellbeing Hubs supporting city residents’ mental health. Before training as a counsellor, I had a career in magazine publishing, and worked as a writer and editor. Clients have told me they appreciate my ability to communicate in plain English, not confusing psychobabble, and the fast-paced world of publishing gives me an appreciation for the pressures faced by many of us in the modern workforce.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
