About me
Hi Folks,
My name is Daniel and my pronouns are he/they, living and working in Portsmouth.
I currently have availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.
I am a UKCP accredited, qualified Person Centred Psychotherapist with over 1500 client hours working with a variety of clients with a variety of emotional and psychological difficulties.
There could be many reasons why you might be looking for psychotherapy or counselling.
Therapy can alleviate distress, struggle or unease in our lives, and can help us live with a greater sense of connection to the things we hold as important.
Reasons to seek out therapy are, much like ourselves, varied, nuanced and complex. A deeply empathic, attentive presence, warmth and trust for how you process things and what you decide to bring to our sessions, are at the heart of my practice as a therapist.
I am currently offering online and telephone therapy and counselling.
Please feel free to get in touch if you wanted to discuss what working together might look or feel like.
We can have a free 30 minute consultation, where we explore a little bit more about what you'd like from therapy, how we might work together and to answer any questions you might have.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained for 6yrs at The Metanoia Institute, London, on the Masters for Contemporary Person Centred Psychotherapy and Applications.
During this extensive 6yr training, I accumulated approx. 1200+ client hours before seeing clients privately.
I have worked with a variety of client populations, including drug and alcohol services, young adults in University, 3yrs with adolescents at college and 6yrs seeing clients for PARCS (Portsmouth Abuse and Rape Counselling Service).
Although I have experience of working with all different kinds of emotional and psychological difficulties, my therapy experience has predominantly been with LGBTQ+ clients, clients experiencing complex trauma and domestic abuse, anxiety, relationship difficulties, sexual and childhood trauma and abuse.
I also have a personal meditation practice of 20yrs, assisting and teaching Buddhist meditation retreats and group work experience in the areas of undoing patriarchy for men and masculine identified people, with Buddhist psychology and meditation and other somatic practices.
I continue to expand my CPD (continual professional development) in many varied ways, so a brief summery of my early formal psychotherapy training and secular mindfulness training is below.
- Clinical Diploma in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy at MSc course w/ The Metanoia Institute, London (Level 7/Masters) (6yrs)
- Levels 2&3 Counselling Skills w/ Southampton City College (2yrs)
- Mindfulness in Schools Teacher Training w/ Mindful Schools California (1yr)
I have also worked alongside my friend and colleague, clinical psychologist, Dr Sanah Ahsan, delivering anti-racism and social justice informed modules, as a core competency for clinical psychology training for Hertfordshire University.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
