About me

About me

I am an experienced integrated counsellor, I work within a psychodynamic approach, with a Gestalt insight. I have an extensive experience of counselling and supporting clients, within NHS and Social Care for 27 years. This includes clients experiencing, for example, anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, psychosis and bipar disorder.

I’ve a lot life experiences that has enriched my understanding of how counselling can change lives and build confidence and self-esteem.

As a therapist/counsellor and previous mental health social worker, I have a considerable amount of experience of working with people who identify themselves as having symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism or asperger's spectrum disorder I also have worked with clients in non-monogamous relationships, with enabling the person to develop a polysecure framework.

My core values have always been about supporting people.  We have all been affected by our life experiences, good or bad. I am passionate about working with clients to gain an understanding of what they perceive to be current concerns and assist them in exploring and identifying solutions.  I enjoy working with people from all sexual orientations, genders and from varied cultural and spiritual backgrounds.  My approach has always been about valuing the person’s individuality, views, fears, hopes, and insights.  I work with the person to gain an understanding of their goals and how we can achieve them; this will usually form the basis of the counselling contract..

I offer an open, supportive, and safe therapeutic environment. I am based in Huddersfield, alongside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.  There are options as  to where the sessions will take place; this includes the garden studio, talk via Facebook, Zoom, or we can sit in the garden - for those of you who like to connect with nature.

Reviews:

'With a complex background in therapy and social care, Craig can offer insight and support other therapists may lack without his experience. His use of gestalt therapy is especially useful.'

'He is amazing. He knows what he is doing and he let you be yourself so you feel welcomed and comfortable. I strongly recommend him to anyone who needs a wise man listening and helping. Thank you so much Craig!'

'Craig has been massively helpful through a difficult time of my life, and I'm very grateful for the discussions and advice he has given me. Thank you!'

'I am extremely satisfied by the professionalism and approach used by Craig. This therapy helped me enormously and I would strongly recommend anyone wanting changes to schedule sessions with him. Craig listens carefully, analyses and is able to understand very well the psychological situation and thought processes. He is very able in providing insight and novel ways of thinking about and viewing situations. This was instrumental in helping me get better. I am thankful for Craig.'

'Craig is my first experience of a therapist, and it’s been positive from the first sentence we exchanged. He has challenged me when necessary, allowed me time to think about his questions, built new understanding of my own relationships and most importantly has been a constructive human connection.
I feel like he’s an old friend after only a few weeks. Of course I would highly recommend him to those who need him to be a challenging voice, pushing you to learn more about yourself and those around you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
