Cogwheel on Saturday is a new service launched by Cogwheel Counselling, a local organisation supporting the community in Cambridge and surroundings for the last 37 years. Cogwheel on Saturday will open its doors in September 2025. Pre-registration is now open
Alongside its affordable service aimed primarily at individuals in challenging financial situations or on lower levels of income and Employee Counselling Service (ECS) enabling employers to support their teams’ wellbeing, Cogwheel on Saturday brings convenience and faster access to the help you need.
Sessions delivered as part of the Employee Counselling Service and Cogwheel on Saturday are charged at £69/session.
Training, qualifications & experience
Cogwheel counsellors are either in the latter stages of their training or fully qualified. They all belong to a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or BABCP and receive training, supervision and support to deliver the best quality service possible.
The counsellors delivering the Employee Counselling Service and Cogwheel on Saturday sessions are fully qualified.
Counsellors practicing at Cogwheel have trained in different institutions and practice using many different ways of understanding human beings and their development. Different theories relating to human flourishing and the challenges that affect a person's mental health inform practices and how a counsellor will support a client in therapy. At Cogwheel, we aim to ensure a good fit between the client and what they hope to achieve in their counselling and how a counsellor works.
Cogwheel Counselling holds an organisational accreditation with BACP. Cogwheel on Saturday, as a new service, is preparing to apply for inclusion in Cogwheel's overall organisations accreditation.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Employee Counselling Service and Cogwheel on Saturday sessions are charged at our non-subsidized rate of £69/session.
Our affordable service offers a basic rate of £29/sessions for any client with a household income of £19.999 or less which can be reduced further through our support fund (whilst funds last). Our session charges increase based on household income brackets. Please consult our website where you can find more information about costs.

Cogwheel on Saturday runs daytime on Saturdays. Please talk to us if availability on Saturdays is a concern.

Your journey as a Cogwheel client will start with registering on our website. Please contact us if you have any issues with digital processes and we will arrange an alternative way of going through the registration with you. You will be asked to book a registration call, provide general information and complete a small questionnaire.
The registration call is a brief telephone call to gather final administrative details and tell you about counselling at Cogwheel. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have.
If we agree that Cogwheel is a suitable service, you will be added to our waiting list for an initial assessment and in due course, you will start counselling.
Employee Counselling Service and Cogwheel on Saturday clients will have their assessment immediately followed by counselling.
