About me

Talking therapy offers you the opportunity to explore any thoughts and feelings you have without judgement; to make sense of your experiences; to be heard and to be understood.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, registered and accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk). In my experience therapy can have a profound impact on our understanding of ourselves, the relationship we have with our self and, by extension, the relationships we have with other people.

People come to therapy for many reasons; you may be feeling low or worried about something in your life, there may be a specific issue or decision you wish to explore, a life event which has impacted you, or an ongoing conflict you wish to resolve. Whatever your reason for getting in touch, my aim is to provide every client with a safe, supportive and confidential space where together we can start to make sense of your experience and feelings.

Over a number of sessions (which varies depending on your needs) the aim is that together we will help you to gain insight and understanding about your personal situation and to explore whether there are any positive changes you could make moving forwards.

I come from a psychodynamic training, which means that I often (although not exclusively) work with clients by exploring:-

  • the impact of your early life and childhood
  • potential conflict between different feelings or different parts of yourself
  • your 'defence mechanisms' or strategies you might have adopted to avoid painful feelings/thoughts (which are often useful but over time can become unhelpful)
  • feelings and patterns in relationships with others, including within the therapeutic relationship (www.counselling-directory.org.uk)

If you are interested in starting therapy with me then please get in touch and I will be happy to arrange an initial telephone call to speak with you.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
