Human Givens Therapist

About me

If you are  thinking about therapy please reach out and we can set up a free 15-minute chat. I'll ask you a bit about yourself and your circumstances and will answer any questions you might have. I'm an integrative therapist which means I draw from different types of therapy that I'm trained in depending on what the client needs. I work with adults, couples, young adults, teens and children, and I hold an enhanced DBS certificate for working with vulnerable people.

What to expect in a session

I take a practical, kind, and non-judgmental approach. In your first session we will look at your unmet emotional needs, your goals for therapy, and come up with a plan or road-map from there. People usually see me for anywhere from 4-12 sessions, but some people need support for longer.

Each session is a mix of talk, practical skills and coping strategies, guided imagery, and relaxation. I use the well-known Rewind technique for releasing and processing trauma. I look at the whole person, including what's worrying you, stress, relationships, health, sleep, and work. I'll listen carefully.

Speciality Areas

While I work with all kinds of issues, like depression, anxiety, problems at school or uni, stress, bad habits, and relationship problems, I also specialise in the following:

1) Physical symptoms that have an emotional or psychological component. This includes IBS, chronic pain, migraines, and some skin conditions.

2) Dissociative disorders

3) Sex-informed couples counselling

4) Support for chronic or terminal illness (e.g. cancer, long covid, autoimmune conditions, Parkinson's)

Please call, text or email me for a free 15-minute chat.

I work in Edinburgh on Saturdays and Sundays (ground floor office) for in-person sessions. I also offer online sessions, which work very well. Most people like a 60-minute session but you have the option of 90-minutes if you prefer.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started my private practice in 2008, in hypnotherapy. From 2015-2018 I ran a hypnosis clinic at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, for patients with dental anxiety.

I am a registered member of the Human Givens Institute (MHGI). I have a PhD in Educational Psychology, with a focus on child/adolescent development and disability. I hold additional certification as a hypnotherapist, Transactional Analysis Practitioner, and Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) practitioner.  AIT is a mind-body psychodynamic trauma treatment that incorporates energy psychology. I am a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register, Complementary and Natural Health Care Register,  American Psychological Association (APA), the Society of Psychological Hypnosis (APA-Div30), and the Advanced Integrative Therapy Institute.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
