About me

Hello, and welcome. I work in central Cambridge, offering both short and long-term counselling.

My name is Claire and I'm an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor which means that I have been trained, and have experience in, a variety of theoretical approaches which helps me to tailor the work we do to your needs.

I understand how difficult it can be to make the first steps towards counselling, and finding the right person for you is very important. It can feel daunting and building a strong trusted relationship is essential - you are the priority.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons - low mood, life events, perhaps we are struggling within our relationships, maybe we don't really know who we are, or have spent much of our life meeting the needs of others and neglecting ourselves. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings, perhaps gaining some renewed clarity. What hurts or what matters most to you leads the way.

I work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons) Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Diploma in Integrative Counselling

I am an accredited member of both UKCP and BACP, working to their ethical and professional standards is an integral part of my practice.

Alongside private practice, I have previously worked with MIND supporting their MINDLINE telephone service, and as a peer support with ADDACTION.

I spent over a decade working and travelling in the footwear industry, and as such understand the impact of competing personal and professional demands for both the individual and their families.

I have experience working with neurodivergence; the impact of diagnosis for both the individual and those surrounding them.

school Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

You'll probably have questions, and of course, it will be in meeting each other that we'll find out if I'm the right therapist for you.

Email me and we can arrange a short exploratory phone call, free of any obligation to continue. We would then arrange a first session.

If you then feel you would like to continue, and I have availability that suits your schedule, we would choose a weekly slot that would be yours for the duration of your therapy.

Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes and usually takes place once a week at the same regular time.

I have a contract that sets out fees, timing, holidays and cancellation notice, all of which we can discuss in that first session. Feel free to ask me questions in your email as well.
