About me

Hello. I am Claire and welcome to Claire Blackwell Counselling.

Taking the step to seek counselling can be daunting. So with that in mind I am truly thankful you have taken to time to stop by and focus on your wellbeing.

Life can sometimes be difficult to navigate and you may be currently experiencing thoughts and feelings that can be confusing, distressing or even disorientating.  I provide a calm, safe, warm, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space, where together at your own pace, we will explore, unpick and talk about the difficulties or issues you may be experiencing. Through our journey together I hope to empower and enable you to make the right choices for you, your life and your situation.

The sessions I provide are 50-minutes and they can take place either face to face at my warm therapy room close to Darlington town centre or virtually. I also offer telephone sessions and walk and talk therapy. I offer flexibility and we can work on a short term or long term basis and we will discuss the number of sessions you may need together and will keep them regularly reviewed.

I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation to allow us to connect and discuss how we might work together before booking our initial session.

Please feel free to contact me on 07715 630990 - you can either call (please leave a message if I don't answer and I will return your call) or if you prefer you can send me a message or WhatsApp message. Alternatively, you can email me on claireblackwellcounselling@gmail.com. I aim to get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you once again for viewing my profile. Remember to take a moment to recognise and be proud of prioritising yourself and taking such an important step toward making changes to your mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Go easy.

Claire

Training, qualifications & experience

I work in an integrative way, taking a whole view of you as a person, exploring your emotional, physical and mental health needs. I draw on techniques from different theoretical approaches to explore the difficulties you may be encountering, including Person Centred Approach, Compassion Focused Approach (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in addition to using creative therapeutic approaches and inner child work.

Experience

I have experience working with adults exploring difficulties including anxiety, low mood and depression, loss and bereavement and relationship difficulties. Additionally I have previously worked for organisations including Age UK and Alzheimer's Society supporting people living with life limiting conditions and in particular supporting those unpaid carers who are providing care and support.

I also have a special interest working with young people and young adults. My experience includes working with Mind UK in high schools with 11-16 years old and supporting young people to explore difficulties including self esteem, relationships, attachment, social / general anxiety, self harm and low mood.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
