About me
You may be looking for support for yourself, or for a child or young person who seems anxious, overwhelmed, low in confidence, or not quite themselves lately. Perhaps things look manageable on the outside, while underneath there is anxiety, pressure or the impact of difficult experiences. Whatever has brought you here, things can feel different with the right support.
I’m Chenelle Owen, founder of Compassionate Therapy Practice. I’m a BABCP-accredited CBT therapist and EMDR therapist, with specialist training in Compassion Focused Therapy.
I work with children, young people and adults experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, depression or low mood, trauma, OCD, low self-esteem, perfectionism, challenges linked to neurodivergence or navigating environments not built for them, and stress connected to work, relationships, school, or life transitions.
Many of the people I support are thoughtful, capable and caring people who have become exhausted by always trying to hold everything together. Others come because of difficult childhood experiences, trauma, abuse, bullying, loss, or painful relationships that have shaped how they see themselves, relate to others, or respond to stress.
My approach places compassion at the centre of the work. Together, we make sense of how these difficulties developed, understand what may be keeping them going, and build practical ways forward. I integrate Compassion Focused Therapy with CBT and EMDR depending on your needs, goals and preferences.
Therapy with me is warm, collaborative and thoughtfully paced. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting, and we can work gently in a way that feels manageable and supportive.
I also have extensive experience supporting children, young people, and neurodivergent adults experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low confidence, school-related stress, and difficulties linked to environments that may not always fit their needs.
I offer therapy in person in Banstead, Surrey, and online across the UK.

Further information
My approach is grounded in the understanding that many emotional difficulties develop as understandable responses to pressure, painful experiences, or earlier relationships rather than signs of personal failure. This can be especially important for children and young people, who may quickly come to believe something is “wrong” with them.
Many people I work with feel caught in cycles of self-doubt, responsibility, overthinking, or needing certainty, and can become highly self-critical when things do not feel right.
In therapy, we take time to understand how these patterns developed and how to respond to them with greater compassion and balance. I adapt therapy thoughtfully for adults, children and young people, offering a space where you do not need to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or rush towards solutions. Change is supported to unfold at a pace that feels steady and contained.
I also have specialist experience in gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, and my practice is inclusive of cultural difference, recognising how identity, life experience and context can shape wellbeing.
