About me

Feeling overwhelmed by unexpected life changes or a recent diagnosis? I can offer you a safe space to process, heal and regain a sense of control.

Hi, I am Charlotte, and I am a qualified, experienced counsellor who works with adults (18+). I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have many years of experience working with people diagnosed with cancer in the NHS, through all aspects of this journey. I have also worked in hospices and with universities.

My aim is to create a calm, safe and confidential space, where you are able to explore whatever you choose to share with me. At any stage of life, challenging situations can happen, sometimes unexpectedly, which can lead us to feel overwhelmed; or you notice a pattern of behaviour which you want to be able to change. Counselling is a way of finding out about yourself, to gain a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings. With this new appreciation, it can help in your understanding of why some relationships or situations may cause you to feel repeatedly upset, angry, depressed, anxious or confused.

Working within a respectful and compassionate relationship, you have the opportunity to develop new understanding regarding your thoughts and feelings, and from this, the possibility of choice and change. You can find coping strategies that are more helpful to you and new ways of dealing with aspects of your life which may be distressing you. As a counsellor, my role is not to give you advice but use my skills to focus on the issues that are important to you. This way, you can then be in a better position to help yourself.

My principal training is in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis, and I will draw on my wide range of training and experience to tailor your sessions for you. Transactional Analysis (TA), was developed to be an accessible model where the client and counsellor work together. If you are interested to know more about TA please use this link: https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/transactional-analysis.html

The number of sessions you have can be personalised to what works for you and what you wish to gain from counselling. Please do contact me. I initially offer a free telephone consultation for you to find out more about how I work, and to decide if counselling is going to be right for you

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
