Psychotherapist & CBT Therapist (BACP and BABCP Accredited)

About me

Hi, I’m Chantal, and my passion and expertise lies in the relationship between physical and mental health. I specialise in supporting people whose psychological well-being is impacted by physical health issues, whilst bringing warmth, attentiveness, compassionate curiosity, and accountability to my work too.

I understand – personally and professionally – how our sense of safety (both in our own bodies and the world around us) can be shaken by illness, trauma, or a life-changing diagnosis. This might be you, or you may be the partner, parent, family member, or friend experiencing the ‘ripple effect’ of a loved one’s experience. Examples might be:

  • Living with a chronic health condition
  • An event leading to life-altering injuries
  • The menopause transition
  • A cancer diagnosis

I offer a compassionate space for exploration, understanding, and support to make new or different choices if that is what feels right for you. But I won’t just sit there and silently nod – we’ll work together! Our relationship (the ‘therapeutic relationship’) is one of the biggest gateways to change. Cultivating this with kindness, curiosity, and gentle challenge is of real importance to me.

You are welcome to get in touch to organise a free, 30-minute consultation to talk about what you would like to get out of therapy and whether we could be a good fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 10 years’ experience working in both the NHS and the charity sector across a range of psychological services, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

I currently work in the NHS as a High Intensity CBT Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. I treat depression and anxiety disorders such as PTSD, phobias, and health anxiety. I am the Menopause Champion in this role and have specialist training in adapting CBT interventions for perimenopause/menopause symptoms (as per NICE Guidelines) – I deliver training to fellow clinicians on this too. I am also on the Advisory Committee for the UK’s first large-scale study exploring the psychological, sexual, and social impact of conflict-related genital injuries on military veterans and their partners.

Whilst I have worked extensively with a variety of physical health issues, I also have specialised knowledge in the following areas:

  • Menopause (surgical, medical, and spontaneous/‘natural’ menopause and POI)
  • Cancer
  • Coping with visible difference or an altered appearance (from birth or after illness/injury)
  • Amputation
  • Medical trauma
  • Phobias impacting medical care (e.g., fear of vomiting, needles, PICC lines/port insertions)
  • Diabetes
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • HIV
  • Neurological conditions
  • Sexual health and wellbeing
  • Living with a life-limiting condition

My approach is pluralistic, which means that I believe no single therapeutic method ‘fits all’. I will always tailor therapy to meet the needs and preferences of the person in front of me. As an accredited Psychotherapist and CBT Therapist, I am trained in a variety of modalities (predominantly Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies).

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
