About me
Hi, I’m Catherine. Seeking help can be daunting. You may be asking questions, for example: Do I need counselling? What can counselling do for me? Speaking to a prospective counsellor can be a good way to gauge if you feel they are someone you feel you could work with. Also, it can be a chance to ask any questions you have. I work in a person-centred way, giving you space to talk about your fears, anxieties and concerns. By using listening and reflection, I can help you make sense of where certain thoughts, feelings and behaviours may stem from which can help you manage them better. Also, by asking the right questions in the right places, I can help you to explore why you behave, think and feel they way you do in your relationships, working, social and family life (to name but a few!).
Training, qualifications & experience
I have competed levels 2, 3 and 4 in therapeutic counselling (diploma). I have also completed comprehensive telephone and online counselling training.
I currently work with female survivors of childhood sexual abuse for which I have completed Carolyn Spring training in 'Childhood Sexual Abuse - Hope For Healing' and am currently working on her course 'Working with Dissociative Disorders in Clinical Practice'. I have also had comprehensive training with the charity I work for in safeguarding. Working with these clients has given me a broad range of experience including working with PTSD, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, agoraphobia, sexual addiction, relationship issues, EUPD, nightmares and flashbacks, self-esteem and confidence issues.
I also work long term with students as a mentor to assist with stress associated with academic study at college and university. During my counselling training I worked within a school environment where I assisted students with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depressions, confidence and self-esteem issues and exam stress.
In person counselling sessions are conducted from my therapy room in Higham Ferrers or online and telephone sessions are conducted from my home in a quiet and confidential space. I have had extensive experience and training in working remotely online and on the telephone.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
