About me
Hi there, my name is Carina a Domestic Violence Therapist. I support survivors of Domestic Violence/ Intimate Partner Violence, to understand and process the emotional and psychological symptoms so that you live your life feeling safe in your own skin, gain peace and joy in everyday moments, and trust yourself and others again.
If you've been through domestic violence or abuse, especially in an intimate partner relationship, you may be experiencing a wide range of emotions and physical symptoms. I want you to know that what you're feeling is valid, you're not alone, and it is possible to live a different life without feeling like a dark cloud is over you, depressed or anxious.
Training, qualifications & experience
I went on to pursue a BSc Counselling degree accredited by the BACP - Further training as a Life coach and Creative arts practitioner.
I have experience in supporting people through difficulties such as depression, anxiety, anger management, trauma, long-term illness, suicidal thoughts, parental burnout, domestic violence, and other mental health difficulties.
I have experience in working within the NHS, private and charity settings working from key stage one with children to adults.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Do you feel like your self-esteem has been shattered, perhaps feeling like you're not worthy or blaming yourself for what happened?
Are flashbacks, nightmares, or overwhelming thoughts about the abuse still haunting you, keeping you hyper-vigilant and on edge, so making it difficult to move forward?
Is it difficult for you to trust others, or even trust your own judgment after everything you've been through?
Relationships may be difficult for you now, even with people who care about you and you may find yourself struggling to manage your emotions, maybe feeling overwhelmed, angry, or easily triggered, plus not even trusting your own judgment, let alone others. On top of these emotional and psychological effects, you may be experiencing physical symptoms like feeling drained, exhausted, suffering from chronic pain or tension in your body, due to the constant stress.
Do you often find it hard to concentrate or focus on everyday tasks, like work, school, or even conversations, because your mind is so consumed by what you've been through? Is sleep also a challenge for you, whether due to nightmares, insomnia, or restlessness?
I want you to know that these symptoms, while difficult, are a natural response to what you've experienced. It's not a reflection of who you are - It's the toll that the abuse has taken on you. You've been through so much, and it's important that you recognise the emotional, physical, and psychological effects this trauma can have. But please understand this: you can heal, I see this every day with my clients, and I can help you on your journey too.
The first step is knowing that your feelings are real and valid and that you deserve support and a path toward peace, confidence, and trust again. It is absolutely possible to stop thinking negatively about yourself or your situation, and instead, finally recognise and feel like you deserve better and see that change is possible. Life can feel peaceful again without continuously feeling anxious or constantly on edge as if something bad might happen at any moment. No more struggling with feelings of sadness, and hopelessness, instead gain your motivation back for life and feel like you are the one who is in control again.
From needing to isolate yourself, to enjoying time spent with friends, family, or social activities because your shame or fear is now manageable and a distant memory.
I work with clients every day to overcome fear or hyper-vigilance so that they no longer feel like danger is always lurking and work through their trauma so that physical symptoms like headaches, stomach issues, or an increased heart rate become less frequent and manageable.
