About me
If you are here, you might be struggling with something that feels a little bigger than yourself. Many of us encounter moments in life where we need extra support and insight to try and understand what might be going on for us.
Maybe you feel stuck, knowing you would like to feel different but unsure how to proceed. Maybe you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts and feelings, unable to take steps forward. Maybe you keep finding yourself in the same situation again and again, and you'd like to understand why. In our work, we might begin to look at your relationship to yourself and to others, and gently begin to understand your patterns and your beliefs, and how they are influencing you today.
I am attachment-based, holding in mind the importance of your early relationships and how they are consciously or unconsciously affecting you now. You may be seeing difficulties being expressed in relationships with others, or it may be manifesting in how you feel in yourself. Sometimes we cope with this by turning to behaviours that are hurting us. You may be aware of this, but feel powerless to stop. The way I work is influenced by psychodynamic and psychoanalytic practices (awareness of how the unconscious impacts us), attachment-based work (understanding our relationship to self and others), and parts work (IFS influenced).
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have a background in psychology, experience working with young people (16+) and adults, and a variety of mental health conditions, such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, and personality disorders, such as BPD or more recently renamed EUPD. I practice an anti-pathologising, trauma-informed approach, so whether you come with a diagnosis or not, we will take our time to explore and understand what your experience is of living in your life, body, and world.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
