About me
My practice is called Desiderium Counselling - Desiderium being the latin word for 'a feeling of something lost', which I find almost the perfect way to describe the sensation, as people can feel they've lost a part of themselves, or maybe are searching for something.
I work as an integrative counsellor, which means I am trained in a few different models combined together. I often use a person centred approach to sessions, but I have studied other models so we can dip into those and use tools to explore what's going on for you and where that might be coming from if you feel this is something important you want to identify within yourself.
I have 3 years plus of experience in working with both short term and long term therapy through various issues people bring, such as depression, low mood, motivation, anxiety (generalised anxiety, social etc), grief, anger management, attachment style, grief, trauma amongst other things so please do get in touch if any of that resonates with you.
I also have completed extensive training for working with bereaved parents who have experienced miscarriage, babyloss, and stillbirth.
I offer a lower cost more affordable price for online/phone counselling as I understand the need is huge but the cost of living means people aren't in the same position financially as they were before.
Please feel free to reach out via phone or email with a brief idea of what you feel you would like to work on and explore so that together we can decide if sessions with me are the right path for you. I'm happy to arrange introductory calls if you'd like to speak to me first to know a little bit about me as well.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Level 4 in Therapeautic Counselling, 500+ hours experience and over 50 hours of CPD (continual professional development) as required.
I recently acquired a qualification in Resource Based Therapy, recognised by the British Psychological Society.
I recently completed extensive training with Petals, a charity in England that offers grief/bereavement counselling for families who have experienced a baby loss, stillbirth and/or miscarriage.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
