About me

My heart lies with helping children and young people to thrive. I work with children and young people aged 5 to 25. Together we will explore issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem and life experiences that are preventing the young person from reaching their full potential or causing emotional difficulties.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP YOUR CHILD?

Sometimes children begin to experience tensions and difficulties that they struggle to understand or explain. Often this is expressed in their behaviour that is challenging or confusing for the adults in their world.

I have a gentle and calm approach; I understand how daunting it can be for children and young people to come for therapy. I am passionate about and a firm believer in early intervention.

To be truly heard and emotionally met where you are at can be a powerful and restorative experience for most children and young people. This allows them to explore, process and express feelings, build their confidence and to develop resilience and self-reflection.

Often, therapeutic support early in life can help a child/young person process and make greater sense of their internal and external struggles and lead to a greater capacity to embrace life not only as children/young people but also into adulthood.

HOW I WORK

With all ages, I place great importance on building a trusting and empathic therapeutic relationship. Creating a safe and confidential environment where children and young people are accepted and valued as they are.

Every child/young person is unique, I therefore use a range of therapeutic approaches in order to assess how best to support the young person in their therapy journey.

As an integrative therapist, I am:

  • Psychodynamic in my thinking i.e. I think about what is being communicated unconsciously as well as literally;
  • Person centred in that I place a high value on the relationship between the therapist and the client
  • Systemic in thinking about the child or young person in the context of his/her family.
  • Creative in the way I use play therapy as a springboard for telling stories or unlocking memories that may reveal messages and beliefs from the unconscious mind.

I use creative and playful mediums to suit the development needs of every individual young person, allowing the young person to feel safe and secure in exploring their thoughts and feelings. I listen and pay attention to what they are saying verbally and non-verbally. To be truly heard and emotionally met where you are at can be a powerful and restorative experience for most children and young people.

GETTING STARTED

Once you have got in contact, I offer a free initial telephone call to discuss how I can potentially help, after which I would arrange to meet for an assessment meeting. If I am the right counsellor sessions will then be at the same time and day weekly.

LOCATION

I work in both Greenford Greater London and East Wittering, West Sussex.

I work in a therapy space within Horsenden Children’s Centre in Greenford. A 10 minute walk from Greenford or Sudbury Hill underground stations. There is off street parking available and a waiting room for parents.

I have a therapy space 200 meters from the beach in East Wittering. There is plenty of off-street parking, the village is a 5 minute walk, offering lots of cafes to have a drink while your child is in their session.

I am able to provide online counselling to children over the age of 12, if appropriate.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered BACP member and qualified therapist. (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and am bound by the code of Ethics & Practice demanded by the professional body. My accreditation is currently with BACP for assessment.

Through my experience working in schools, I have seen how young people’s emotional state and struggles can often impact heavily on their ability to learn and thrive in the school environment.

Passionate about children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. I started as a volunteer counsellor for ChildLine. My experience includes working for a local counselling charity with young people aged 12-25 years old. Specific experience working with vulnerable children and young people with complex issues, in a special needs SEMH (social emotional and Mental Health) Secondary school. Experience as a children's counsellor with Place2Be, a leading provider of support for children's mental health running 2 projects within a primary and secondary school with children and young people aged 5 to 18 years old.

I have worked with young people from a wide range of different backgrounds and different family experiences, who have been experiencing and living with a wide variety of issues. My own life experiences have led me on this journey, I believe that having a safe space where you are attuned to and understood allows a child/young person to explore and understand their feelings and to recognise and change unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

I am committed to ongoing professional development (CPD).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
