About me

Hello, I'm Avril, a therapist who specialises in supporting women over the age of 40. I help my clients to understand themselves, so they can take control of their life and feel empowered to succeed.

I can help you reflect on important relationships in your life, manage the stress of family issues like caring for children and elderly relatives, or talk about the impact of the symptoms of perimenopause or menopause on your day to day life. I also work with clients to navigate the challenges of running their own business along with juggling work and family life.

I use a combination of my formal training, therapeutic client work and lived experience to validate my client's emotional experiences and help to make meaning of their lives.

I offer weekly or fortnightly 50 minute sessions. You can start with a series of 6 sessions, there is the option to work longer term.

I offer in-person or online sessions on zoom, from a comfortable bespoke counselling room in Bedford town centre.

I firmly believe that working with a therapist to explore what is going on for you can lead to real change in your life. So whether you are adjusting to a new stage in  life or trying to overcome loss or separation, I can help.

Maybe you are constantly giving to others and find you have nothing left for yourself? Do you need some time for you, to explore why you are struggling at the moment? Maybe you are depressed or struggling with loss, anxiety, or chronic pain?

If you are finding life a challenge or feel you need someone to talk to, then I can help. I can offer you a confidential space where you can be listened to empathically.

I am a professional, qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor. I am a registered member of the BACP and my work is bound by their Ethical Framework and professionally supervised.

Please call or email me to set up a free, no commitment, 20 minute zoom call. We would then arrange a convenient time to hold an initial consultation to explore what you are looking for from counselling and whether we can work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I specialise in working with women over the age of 40 and the issues and transitions that affect that complex stage of life.

  • Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
  • Advanced Certificate in Somatic Trauma Theory and Skills
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling
  • Certificate in Solution Focused Therapy Essentials
  • MSc in Cognitive Science

My continued professional development focusses on issues that affect women such as menopause, reproductive health concerns and emotional dysregulation in children.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
