About me

I am an experienced therapist and work with an extensive range of issues. I specialise in Relationship Therapy - working with both individuals and couples.

If you're alive, you are in relationship with someone. And let's face it, relationships are not always easy and don't always feel natural. Once the glossiness wears off, it takes a lot more maintenance than you may realise and therapy isn't just for when you reach a crisis.

When edges form and niggles build, it's understandable that we don't always have the skills to work through things and this is where a specialist relationship therapist comes in.

I am Ashley and work with an integrative, relational approach which can be applied to many issues including anxiety, bereavement, stress, self-esteem; and then more specifically with couples.

I offer a warm, nurturing and confidential environment to support you in exploring, discovering and resolving some of the challenging areas in your life that may be holding you back or bringing sadness. My approach is not prescriptive and is led by your needs.

We will look at your wider framework - considering all impacting systems which can include your culture, gender, age, religion, wider family systems, sexuality, spirituality, education etc. In addition, I believe it's beneficial to understand a person's past and how this may be influencing your present.

As a member of the BACP I am bound by a strict ethical framework and required to seek regular supervision and maintain my continued professional development through additional training - often with a specific focus.

The process is collaborative, and the therapeutic relationship is of up-most importance to the outcome of any type of therapy and therefore it is incredibly important that you choose a counsellor with whom you feel can meet your individual needs and you are confident in their training and expertise.

My work is all online which provides flexibility and allows me to work with people outside of my local area.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

What you can expect:

We will meet for an initial consultation where you will have the opportunity to share some of the difficulties you are experiencing. In addition to this, I will tell you a little bit about how I work and you can decide whether I am the right person for you.

If you are in a relationship, I know that at times one person in the relationship may not wish to attend and although it's always helpful to work with the couple, it is possible to work with you individually.

If we decide that ongoing counselling is suitable, we will arrange ongoing appointments on a weekly basis or sometimes fortnightly depending on your needs.

The sessions are confidential and a full confidentiality statement will be given at your first appointment.

Ongoing Counselling

Sessions provide a warm, nurturing and confidential space to discuss, explore, understand and work through areas of your life that are challenging.

We will have regular reviews together, providing an opportunity to discuss your progress and to ensure you are getting the most from therapy.

Birth Reflection/Healing Sessions

These sessions are designed to give you the space to talk through unresolved issues surrounding a difficult or disappointing birth. It may be that it is affecting your relationship with your baby or your partner perhaps or you are struggling to find the words for what you are experiencing.

This is a 50 minute session - and will include giving me a broad idea of your experience, getting an idea of what you are experiencing now and what might be helpful ongoing. Sometimes, this can be enough, but further sessions may be required or ongoing counselling may be an option.

The sessions are designed to be gentle and supportive and a 'guilt' free space to talk.

Available Appointments

All services are available on Tuesdays 10 am - 8 pm, Wednesdays (10am - 1:30) (5 pm - 7pm) Thursdays (10am - 1:30) (5pm - 6pm) & Saturdays (can be negotiated)
