I am a qualified experienced integrative counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP). I hope that my profile and website may help reduce some of the anxieties and concerns that can be brought about when looking for a counsellor.
I offer daytime and evening appointments for individual and couples counselling.
Being an integrative counsellor means that I can use a range of different approaches that are determined by you and your presenting problem. They enable both of us to further understand your unique story. I offer a safe, non-judgemental, quiet and confidential space for both of us to work, at your own pace, on difficulties that you are currently facing in your life. They may have been buried for some time and are now surfacing or they could be concerns that you may have about the future.
Many of my clients have said that talking about their issue has given them great comfort and allowed them to 'listen' to themselves in a different way. In doing so they were able to gently challenge themselves and begin to deeply understand and address their own self-defeating behaviour and negative internal dialogue that were maintaining a constant cycle of problems and conflict in their lives.
Sometimes the first step is the hardest as the prospect of talking to somebody you don't know about very personal issues can be overwhelming. However, once you are able to take that step you may find that a qualified stranger may help you to begin a journey of increased self-awareness that enables you to sustain an effectiveness in confronting and resolving your own issues as they arise.
Further information about me and the service I offer can be found on my website: www.ajjcounselling.co.uk
Sessions last for 50 minutes. We can work on a short or long term basis.
Please feel free to contact me via email or telephone if you have any questions and I will be happy to help.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BSc (Hons) First Class Degree in Counselling.
I first started studying Counselling in 2005 and was awarded the highest grades at Certificate and Intermediate Certificate levels. Prior to setting up my own practice I trained and worked for over two years at an agency in London specialising in sexual, psychological and domestic abuse.
My clients there were from different ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds. They shared with me their very personal lives which enabled me to gain an invaluable insight into the complexities of abuse and its associated difficulties such as shame, guilt, fear, anxiety, depression and anger.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Affairs and betrayals
- Anger management
- Asperger's syndrome
- Attachment disorder
- Bipolar disorder
- Carer support
- Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME
- Domestic violence
- Eating disorders
- Emotional abuse
- Family issues
- Generalised anxiety disorder
- Hearing voices

- Existential therapy
My fee is £40 per therapeutic hour (50 minutes); £50 for couples therapy.
However, if your budget does not allow for this I will consider reductions especially for appointments made Monday to Friday and between 9 am and 5 pm. My consideration is not means tested and is based on trust.
The lowest fee I charge is £30 per therapeutic hour for individual therapy.
It is possible to arrange for an exploratory session only. I offer flexible therapeutic contracts with regular assessments if you decide to continue with therapy. The therapy I offer encourages you to raise your own awareness to your own issue so that optimal well being may be experienced and maintained.
My practice specialises in Person-Centred, Existential, Psycho-dynamic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) approaches. Our work together may also be informed by other approaches such as Mindfulness.
An assessment will be carried out in the first session. This will be a time for you to let me know what brings you to counselling, your expectations of therapy and for me to explain, in as much detail as you would prefer, the therapy I can offer to best meet your needs. We will have an open conversation and may mutually agree to work together.
If you would like to know more about the counselling service I offer then contact me for a free no obligation consultation via either email or telephone.
