About me

My name is Annie Cooper, founder of 'Room to Heal' therapeutic counselling based in Penryn, Jubilee Warehouse. I offer trauma informed person-centred counselling in a confidential and non-judgemental space.

I believe warmth and compassion in a therapeutic relationship is fundamental to facilitating healing and growth. I promote autonomy for positive change and empower clients to improve mental health through self-exploration alongside professional and clinical insights.

My practise is primarily person-centred, however includes integrative methods such as psychoeducation and differing therapeutic techniques personalised to client individuality. Above all I offer a space which is solely devoted to you. The time spent in sessions can be used to recognise unconscious negative self-beliefs and notice behaviour patterns that may not be serving you.

I personally, have dedicated significant time to healing and self-development and established a meaningful professional relationship with counselling, psychotherapy and human behaviour. I have a keen interest in health psychology/somatic work and the inextricable link between mind and body, how trauma effects our physical health and how our physical body effects out minds.

Professional Experience

I have provided a 'safe space' in the clinical world, with critical care counselling within NHS Hospital Health Psychology Department, supporting clients recovery following an intensive care admission. My work was dedicated to helping clients make sense of suffering with issues such as adjustment disorders, trauma, catastrophic injuries, living with chronic pain, memories of delusions, post-coma recovery, anxiety and depressive moods.

My experience extents to domestic abuse, where I compassionately dedicated myself to clients who had difficulties with a mirage of enduring psychological complications such as complex PSTD, low self-worth and suicidal ideation due to differing types of abuse such as physical, sexual, neglect and parental alienation.

Prior to this I worked in colleges and universities, supporting both adolescence and adult students with issues in mental health and neurodivergence with academic progress, life skills and transition into employment. This included working with autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, bereavement, childhood trauma, selective mutism, personality disorders, non-suicidal and self injury disorder.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
