About me

What do most of us desire beneath it all? To feel good, whole and comfortable within ourselves and in the relationships around us. That state of peaceful being resides within all of us but often past traumas and challenging life experiences have shaped who we have become, influencing the story of who we now think we are. These beliefs often disconnect us from our true, best selves.

Trauma happens, and often feelings of shame result. Living our lives wishing bad events never happened leave us feeling powerless but through incorporating our past experiences in a way that does not debilitate, permits us to live with them, not ruled by them. Therapy is a unique opportunity to unpick and explore yourself, your struggles, thoughts and feelings in a relaxed, compassionate and confidential space with someone who has your best interest at heart.

Therapy with me…

You have come to therapy to change something in your life, be it how you feel or your circumstances. If the desire to change is there then I am here to help you achieve your goals. My approach is warm, open and direct. There will be moments of challenge in order for you to reach deeper self awareness and growth. Existing perceptions will be questioned in order to facilitate change as together we will work to help you feel more connected and whole.

When clients shed unhelpful beliefs and behaviour patterns that have been holding them back what emerges is something precious, new and exciting. Through this process of self examination we can begin to move towards the warm embrace of self love and acceptance where life holds greater promise, joy and fulfilment.  To put it simply, I am here to help you discover what you're capable of.

This is a rich, transformative journey that we’ll take one step at a time at a pace thats in harmony with who you are.

If my approach resonates with you, please get in touch. I offer a complimentary phone consultation (around 15 minutes) to discuss what you hope to achieve through our sessions and to determine if working together feels right.

I work according to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), which includes regular supervision with a senior colleague and attending courses and further training to remain up to date with developments in the field.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a UK registered and qualified Psychotherapist. My education includes a CPCAB Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelors degree (Hons) from the University of California, San Diego. I am a registered member of the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling, the BACP (MBACP no 01005580 ).

Working in an integrative, psychotherapeutic way, my approach combines Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Compassion Focused Therapy modalities. I am also a couples therapist incorporating approaches from Juliette Grayson, Ellyn Bader and the Gottman Institute.

In addition to my therapeutic education, and art degrees, I have extensively studied ancient eastern Buddhist philosophy including a prolonged monastic sojourn. The subsequent acceptance of what life brings, along with opening to what is possible, quietly informs my practice as a person and therapist.

I am an American expat born and raised in Florida, then California, where I completed high school, university and graduate school. I have lived in the United Kingdom for the past 21 years in both the London and Bath areas.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I have been a contemporary artist and continue to create work. My struggles, appreciation and experience of the creative process has deepened my understanding of the human psyche which I incorporate in my psychotherapy sessions.

Alongside my private practice I volunteer at Wiltshire Mind

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Therapy for creatives - Artists, musicians, actors, writers, and other creatives offer immeasurable value to our world. Art is vital to human expression however creative careers are far from easy. The process of creating art often requires accessing most sensitive and personal areas of your life, which can feel emotionally draining. You might have moments of block and feel you’re forcing yourself to come up with creative ideas when you’re uninspired, or you may stress about finding the next sale or performance to pay your bills. As rewarding as it can be to be a creative, many artists struggle with anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and other challenges. Therapy for creatives is an opportunity to overcome these issues and reach your full potential.
