About me
I can provide a safe, confidential space for you to explore any issues you want to bring. This could be a bereavement, anxiety or depression, self-esteem or confidence issues, work or study difficulties, or there may just be a general sense that life is lacking in meaning and direction. I have experience of working with trauma, particularly related to sexual or physical abuse and have worked with clients who have suffered abuse within institutional settings. I work using the Person-Centred approach, which will work at your own pace with whatever you choose to work on in each session. I have training in Emotion-Focused Therapy and offer long or short-term counselling at your choice. I am currently offering Zoom, face to face and telephone sessions. Please contact me by email initially to discuss your preference.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Strathclyde. This is an accredited training course and I am a registered member of BACP(British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) MBACP.
I am also a qualified supervisor with a COSCA Certificate in Supervision. I have experience of working with a wide range of client issues, including bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, trauma, PTSD, abuse, gender identity and sexuality, workplace issues, overcoming blocks to learning and fulfilling creative and academic potential.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I like to work flexibly to allow you to find what works best for you. Sessions might be weekly, or less often. I can also work with intermittent sessions, which might be appropriate after you've had several sessions and no longer feel the need to come weekly. It's fine to check in every so often too after therapy has ended for a catch up session, or a few extra ones to reinforce what you've learned previously.
Before training as a counsellor, I trained as a musician at the RSAMD (now the Royal Conservatoire) and worked as an accompanist, pianist and teacher. I also have a degree in French and German from Glasgow University. I am therefore familiar with the possible pressures of academic study and performance anxiety issues and have an interest in working with creativity and self-expression in the arts as well as the issues shown above. Students welcome.
