About me
What I Provide
Are you struggling with difficult feelings or emotional issues? Or a general nagging sense that you’re stuck. That life just has to be better than this. I work with you to explore and understand your emotional difficulties more fully, and support you to get more from life.
I am a highly qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer confidential, understanding and non-judgmental counselling and psychotherapy at my comfortable, restful practice just a few minutes from Tooting Broadway tube. I’m within easy reach of Balham, Clapham, Earlsfield and Wandsworth.
Before training as a therapist I had a 20 year career in the creative industries, as a journalist and TV producer, and feel, that as well as my clinical training, I bring longstanding experience of life out in the real world to my work with you, my client.
How I Work
I'm an Integrative Therapist, which means I tailor the approaches and theories I draw on to meet your unique needs.
The first thing I do is prioritise building a trusting, solid relationship where you can talk freely about what is bothering you. It’s my job to really step into your shoes and experience from your perspective what you are going through.
As I work with you to explore your issues, you may come to understand yourself better. You may discover how past experiences influence the way you operate in the world right now. You may begin to experience a deeper, truer sense of who you are and what you need and want. And with more self-awareness you may find yourself having more choices, feel able to make changes you might want to make, or act in new ways that might be more helpful to you now.
I work with clients with a huge range of issues: stress, anxiety, depression, anger, feeling empty or that life has no meaning, relationship issues or work issues. I offer short term and long term counselling.
Starting Therapy
I realise contacting a counsellor can be daunting. That's why, if you get in touch, I will call you back to introduce myself and you can ask me anything you want. If you wish to, we’ll make an appointment to meet for an introductory consultation. At that session we'll discuss your issues and what you want from therapy. You can then decide whether you want to proceed.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a professionally qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with experience of working with clients on a wide range of emotional issues and difficulties.
I hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute in London, widely recognised as one of the leading training organisations in the UK, with a reputation for excellence, and from Middlesex University. I also hold a Post-Graduate Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and a Post-Graduate Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychodynamic Counselling, both from the Metanoia Institute.
I have five years experience as a counsellor and therapist, and have worked as a therapist in the NHS and with a number of counselling services across London. Before training as a therapist, I had a fulfilling 20 year career in the creative industries as a journalist, magazine editor and TV producer.
I am a registered member of the UKCP (the leading UK accrediting body for psychotherapists) and an MBACP - a registered member of the BACP (the profession’s largest registering body for counsellors and psychotherapists) both of which promote best practice. I abide by their ethics and codes of practice. I am committed to continuing professional development.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
