MA, MBACP, Registered Clinical Psychotherapist & Counsellor

About me

Straightforward, discreet therapy for men who want real support.

Many men feel overwhelmed, anxious or stuck in patterns they can't break, and want a practical, action-orientated therapist.

I specialise in working confidentially with men — often men who feel stuck in patterns they can’t seem to shift. This can show up as anxiety, addiction, ADHD, relationship difficulties, intrusive thoughts, or the pressure to stay strong, capable, and dependable for others.

If you’re a man reading this, you might be used to managing things on your own, keeping going, or not quite knowing how to put into words what’s been weighing on you. Many of the men I work with feel overwhelmed or quietly exhausted, even when life looks “fine” from the outside.

You don’t need to have the right language or a clear plan before starting therapy. Sessions can be a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and find steadier ways forward — at a pace that works for you.

Many men I work with carry a great deal internally while continuing to function at work, in relationships, or as fathers, partners, or leaders.

I am an NHS-trained practitioner with 22 years of clinical experience across a wide range of settings. My work has included leading mental health services for an international NGO, consultancy, training, and clinical supervision.

Over the years, I’ve supported many hundreds of individuals — a significant number of them men — navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, ADHD, and major life transitions. These experiences have shaped a grounded, practical approach that respects autonomy, privacy, and pace.

Many men appreciate that this work isn’t about being analysed or fixed. Therapy is open-ended and client-led: you choose the focus, the pace, and how long our work together lasts.

Why men seek therapy
Every man’s story is different, but common themes include:

  • Drug and alcohol overuse
  • Porn, sex and other addictions or habits you want to break
  • Anger and frustration
  • Difficulties feeling or sustaining intimacy
  • Relationship problems (with partners, children and friends)
  • Sexuality concerns
  • Mid-life crises
  • Low mood or depression
  • Low self-confidence
  • Career or work-related issues - including stress and burnout
  • Trauma and abuse

What makes me different?

  1. Experience working with men who find it hard to talk, don’t feel “therapy-ready,” or are unsure whether counselling will help
  2. A grounded blend of emotional depth and practical, real‑world problem‑solving, shaped by over 20 years of clinical experience
  3. Specialist expertise in anxiety and stress, ADHD (diagnosed or suspected), overwhelm, addiction, and complex trauma/PTSD
  4. An authentic, supportive approach — I genuinely care about the people I work with and their progress

Who I Work With Best
I work especially well with men who are:

  • Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or emotionally overloaded
  • Struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or harsh self-criticism
  • Navigating life transitions, identity shifts, or relationship changes
  • Living with ADHD or ADHD traits (diagnosed or suspected)
  • Carrying a lot alone and unsure how to talk about it
  • Wanting clarity, direction, and a steadier emotional footing

If you recognise yourself in any of these, you’re in the right place — and you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

How I work
Many clients tell me they value a balance of space to talk things through and practical ways of making sense of what’s happening.
My approach is warm, transparent, and methodical.

I blend emotional support with practical, real‑world problem‑solving to help you move forward in ways that feel manageable and grounded.

Here’s what you can expect:
I offer both short‑term and long‑term therapy. There’s no minimum or maximum number of sessions. We’ll have regular check‑ins to reflect on how therapy feels and ensure it’s meeting your needs. You’re never locked in — we go at a pace and duration that genuinely works for you.

A space where you feel more capable and less alone

A little bit about me
I’ve spent 22 years working in mental health, including nine years as part of international emergency humanitarian operations in drought‑ and war‑affected regions of Eastern Africa. That work taught me how to support people in some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable, and it continues to shape the way I understand resilience, trauma, and human connection.

Prior to this, I worked for several years within UK mental health services, focusing on complex trauma, personality disorder, anxiety, and homelessness. This involved close collaboration with the NHS and emergency services, supporting people in acute distress, instability, and high‑risk situations. Those experiences gave me a deep understanding of how trauma, crisis, and long‑term patterns intersect — and how to offer grounded, compassionate support when it matters most.

I’m now continuing my work by applying my experience and knowledge in a successful private practice near London. I now provide therapy to adults online across the UK and internationally, as well as offering therapy to other therapists and delivering training to organisations and frontline teams.

Outside of work, I love salsa dancing, playing chess, and keeping up with the latest psychological research - you’ll usually find me with my nose in a book or research article.

Confidentiality
Sessions are completely confidential and without judgement. My role is to meet you exactly where you are — with neutrality, steadiness, and respect — even when things feel difficult or messy.

What clients say
Many of the people I work with are men who’ve tried therapy before and felt misunderstood.

"Andy is a brilliant professional. Having tried multiple psychologists, his knowledge and care have resonated with me the most. With him, you feel heard, not dismissed — genuinely understood. I’ve learned a lot about myself through our work, but most importantly, Andy is a genuine and attentive person, which makes a huge difference in the process."

"Andy has been very helpful in showing me to accept loss and see myself in different ways, I do feel lighter for talking to him, and I think it's just the start and hope to continue working with him as I move forward with life."

Alongside my private practice, I’ve supported hundreds of clients through a leading online therapy platform, receiving a consistent 4.9/5-star rating across 823 sessions in 2025.

Location: Based in London, offering online therapy across the UK.

What happens in our first session
You don’t need to know exactly what to say — we’ll take it step by step.

We’ll talk about what’s been weighing on you, what you’d like to change, and what kind of support feels most helpful right now. It’s also a chance for us to get to know each other and begin shaping the goals you want to work towards.

You’re welcome to book a free 15‑minute conversation. It’s simply a chance to talk, ask questions, and get a feel for whether working together is the right fit — no pressure.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
