About me

I'm Andy, a counsellor based in Hove, working across the Sussex coast (Hove, Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing) and online.

I've been in practice since qualifying in 2013 and I'm accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

I work with individuals and couples on a wide range of things: anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress and the general weight of life feeling like too much.

I also bring particular experience working with LGBTQ+ and trans clients, autistic and ADHD adults, and young adults.

My approach is person-centred: I trained in the model developed by Carl Rogers, which puts the quality of our working relationship at the centre of any change. I combine that with a genuine interest in what current research says actually helps, and a long-standing personal practice in mindfulness that quietly informs how I work.

I've had my own experience of anxiety and depression, and I'm neurodivergent myself. That doesn't make me an expert in your particular experience, but it does mean I understand something of what it costs to ask for help, and how important it is that the help you find is honest and competent.

If any of this sounds like a fit, email me with a few words about what you're hoping to work on. I'll usually get back to you within 24 hours to arrange a short, free phone call before anything else.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I don't like to be ticking these boxes and listing particular 'labels' as being something I work with, and excluding things I don't.  We are all unique and on person's struggle with one of these topics can be entirely different to another person's.

Get in touch, whether your problem is listed here or not, give me the key points and we will go from there; if I can't help, I may be able to help you find a counsellor who can.

Block discount

A 13-week block booking is available for in-person individual sessions, paid in 3 monthly instalments of £225 (roughly £51.92 per session). I'd recommend trying a few pay-as-you-go sessions first, so you know it's working before committing to a block.

Further information

Getting started usually begins with an email. A few words about what you're hoping to work on is plenty to begin with. We'll then arrange a short phone call, free and with no obligation, so you can ask anything and we can both get a sense of whether it's a good fit.

Sessions are usually weekly and 50 minutes, though I can be flexible on length and format where that works better, including for neurodivergent clients who sometimes find a different structure easier.

I'd encourage trying a few sessions before committing to anything longer. Therapy is a real commitment of time, money and energy, and it should earn your continued commitment rather than assume it from the start.

In-person sessions are available in Hove. Online sessions are available across the UK, generally at a reduced rate since there's no room hire cost involved.
