About me
Hello, I’m Amal, a qualified Children and Young People Counsellor and Registered Member of BACP.
There are times when children and young people can find it difficult to understand or express what they are feeling. They may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, difficulties with friendships or family, bullying, bereavement, or just feeling overwhelmed by something that is happening in their lives. Sometimes, a change in behaviour can be a way of communicating that something is not quite right.
As a parent or carer, it can be difficult to know how best to support your child when they are struggling. You may notice changes in their mood or behaviour, find that they are becoming withdrawn, or feel that they are finding things more difficult than usual. Counselling can provide them with a safe space outside of their everyday environment where they can talk, explore and make sense of what they are experiencing.
I offer a warm, safe and non-judgemental space where children and young people can feel comfortable being themselves and feel genuinely heard. I work at the young person’s pace and take the time to understand them as an individual, rather than focusing only on the difficulties they are experiencing.
My aim is to support young people to develop a greater understanding of their thoughts, feelings and experiences, build self-awareness and confidence, and find ways of coping with the challenges they are experiencing. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work, and I believe that feeling understood, accepted and listened to is a crucial part of the counselling process.
Every child and young person is different, so I adapt the way I work according to their age, developmental stage, personality and individual needs. My approach is integrative and draws upon Person-Centred Therapy, Attachment Theory and Interpersonal Neurobiology. Where appropriate, I also use therapeutic play and creative approaches, giving younger children and those who may find talking difficult ways to communicate and express themselves.
I have experience supporting children and young people across primary and secondary schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and online mental health chat services.
If you are considering counselling for your child or young person, I welcome an initial conversation with parents or carers. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what is happening, what support you are looking for and whether my approach is suitable for your child.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Stourbridge and a free 15-minute consultation.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I offer a confidential and supportive counselling service for children and young people.
I understand that choosing a counsellor for your child or young person is an important decision. Finding someone they feel comfortable with is an important part of the therapeutic process, which is why I welcome an initial conversation with parents or carers to understand what support is being sought and to discuss whether my approach may be suitable.
