About me

Thank you for viewing my profile. I am an experienced counsellor/Cognitive Behaviour Therapist who specialises in working with adults and children age 11+.  I run North West Counselling Services Limited and have many years experience of working with a diverse range of people on a wide variety of difficulties. For example: anger, depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harming, eating disorders, relationship issues, low self-esteem, stress, inner child and lack of direction in life. I also work 2 days a week in two secondary schools as a counsellor/therapist with staff, young people and their parents.  I have 20 years’ experience of working in secondary schools, 14 years as a teacher/leader and I am also a trained Special Educational Needs Coordinator. The following is an outline of my experience:

  • Provide person-centred counselling/CBT therapy one to one sessions for adults and young people/children age 11+. Supporting clients to feel empowered to find their potential and ‘wholeness’.
  • Couples counselling, supporting couples in a solution focussed way to feel better about their relationship.
  • Walk and Talking Therapy (person-centred). An alternative therapy walking side by side rather than sitting face to face, enables some clients to feel more comfortable when sharing in the therapy process. It offers an opportunity to reduce stress, relieve body tension, improve circulation, breathe deep and clear the body-mind of intrusive, negative ruminative thoughts and sesations.
  • Online and telephone therapy.
  • Groups sessions for young people, for example self-esteem and anxiety/stress.
  • Develop and deliver a range of workshops with a focus on education around mental health and wellbeing.
  • Experience of networking with a wide range of people in an educational setting and the ability to build relationships quickly.

The interpersonal skills I have developed over the years are reflected in my counselling practice. I believe in creating a safe, supportive and challenging therapeutic environment. This allows my clients the space and privacy to talk about their personal problems in a warm, non-judgemental and confidential setting.

I use a wide range of resources in my work to help people explore the difficulties they are experiencing and work towards helping them improve their own mental health. With children, my toolkit has a variety of activities that help children explore how they feel in a way they know best. I am a creative person and always prepared to ‘think outside the box’ to help a child express themselves.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
