About me
Welcome! My name is Ali (she/they) and I am a pluralistic counsellor offering online and in-person therapy to adults of all ages.
Therapy for Emotional Wellbeing
Are you looking for help to make sense of your experiences and emotions? A place to speak openly without fear of being judged or seen as a burden? Or maybe you would you like to build self-compassion and reconnect with parts of yourself that feel forgotten? People come to therapy for so many reasons and all are valid. Whatever brings you here, I will offer you a confidential space where you can share anything, always at your own pace and without pressure.
LGBTQIA+ and Neurodiversity Affirming Counselling
As a queer therapist, my work is rooted in a neurodivergent- and LGBTQIA+ affirming perspective. I am deeply committed to working in a non-pathologising way and I welcome conversations about how you encounter your own identities and experience. I understand that the struggles bringing you to therapy are often shaped by wider social and cultural contexts, not just individual factors. My aim is to provide a space where your feelings and experiences can be met with compassion and understood within that broader picture.
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach is relational: I believe that feeling seen, understood and accepted by another person can be healing in many ways, so our therapeutic relationship itself can become a factor in positive change. You can expect me to show up authentically in your sessions, and I hope you will experience me as a warm, grounded presence.
I am trained in the pluralistic framework, which is a flexible, integrative approach to counselling. I recognise and value the individuality of your experiences, preferences and hopes for therapy, and depending on what feels most helpful to you I may draw on theories and techniques from a range of approaches.

Training, qualifications & experience
- MSc Counselling (Distinction) – Abertay University, Dundee
- COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills – Edinburgh College
- BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy – Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh
Before training as a counsellor I spent the majority of my career working in client-facing roles in charity settings, supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
I have particular experience of working with survivors of sexual violence, having spent 4 and a half years in the gender-based violence sector. If this forms part of your life story I hope you may feel safe enough to share this with me if you want to.
Some other experiences I have worked with are:
- LGBTQIA+ experiences
- Burnout
- Loss, grief and bereavement
- Relationship difficulties and family issues
- Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
- Life transitions
- Childhood trauma
- Sexual assault and sexual abuse
Whilst these categories can be a way of connecting with specific experiences, ultimately I work with human beings and take a holistic view, seeing us as more than a label.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
