About me

What is personal therapy and how would it work?

Starting personal therapy is a big decision and it makes sense to wonder where to start and which psychotherapist to choose. How would you know what’s right for you? Making the decision to tell someone about the things that bother you most is not an easy one.

However, if you are here, I would guess there’s a need to talk. Whatever it is - whether it is problems in the present, memories of the past or worries about the future - I can promise you a safe and confidential space to talk about it. A journey to find out what can make things better for you is a lot easier if you’re not alone in it. I would consider it a privilege to be there with you every step of the way, doing my best to help you discover your way towards a more aware and peaceful existence.

I believe a journey towards a better life starts with genuine curiosity and a desire to explore your own world. The more aware you are and the more you discover where your thoughts and actions stem from, the more in control you will feel of your choices, feelings, actions and life in general.

I will meet you with an open mind and an attitude of curiosity and care. Together we can work on any issues that are relevant for you at this point in life, discover who you are, explore your ways of relating and being in the world, and figure out what works for you and what doesn’t.

What happens once you make contact?

I offer both long-term and short-term counselling, and we can decide which format suits you best after the initial consultation. The initial consultation is a free 20 minute phone or Zoom call where we meet each other and have a brief conversation to see whether we might be a good fit. I will ask you to tell me what brings you to therapy and I can talk about how I work and what to expect from our time together, so you can decide whether this is something you are looking for. To book, please email alina@avpsychotherapy.co.uk or contact me on +447746233357 (WhatsApp available).

If we decide to work together, I will send you a contract and data form for you to fill in and sign. As we start the sessions, we can decide which model fits you best (weekly, biweekly, fortnightly, etc.)

Please note at present I only offer online sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
