About me
* I am fully booked - I will update my availability here :) **
Are you anxious, overwhelmed or feeling low? Maybe you feel like you need a change? Asking for help can be really difficult, especially if you are struggling! I am an experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Counselling Psychologist. I offer weekly sessions both online and in-person for adults in central Bath (Free parking is a 10 minute walk away.)
Counselling Psychology is research-based psychological therapy. I am HCPC registered and I adhere to HCPC and BPS codes of conduct. I am fully insured and supervised. I have 14 years of experience working as a psychotherapist and coach and 6 years as a Psychologist. I also practice EMDR and Attachment Focused EMDR.
In addition to working with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and relationship issues, particular areas of interest include:
· Loss - loved ones, relationship, job, identity, life plans and ideas.
· Childhood neglect, emotional abuse, low self-esteem
· Chronic illness
· Perfectionism
· PTSD, CPTSD and Trauma
· Parents, parenting, marital difficulty
· Neurodiversity
· Life stage transitions, menopause, change, crisis, retirement and illness
I have worked with with all kinds of psychological and emotional concern. I aim to help you to achieve self-awareness, make changes, increase resilience and coping skills, to develop and try new perspectives, recognise patterns and behaviours and bring relief from stress and distress.
Psychotherapy can help you further your emotional intelligence, improve your emotional regulation, increase your confidence, make progress in life and enhance relationships of all types.
Very often we struggle with problems on our own and find it difficult to talk to others for fear of upsetting them or being misunderstood. We can also become self-critical when going it alone is not helping us and sometimes, we kick ourselves when we are down.
I provide a safe, confidential, accepting place so you can talk about what troubles you and think about new possibilities, including learning how to do that! I respect your right to be you. My aim is to provide security, welcome and a skill set to assist you. I am friendly, easy to get on with and I have a sense of humour :)
I work in an integrative way by listening carefully and and considering your experience. The therapeutic modalities which inform my practice are; Psychodynamic Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Pesso Boyden Psychomotor and EMDR. I use a combination of these approaches. I consider all information including your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and I work collaboratively with you to research your concerns and make a treatment plan to resolve the problem or reach the goal. Collaboration is important as it helps build resilience, self-awareness and ways of moving forward.
Your experience is important and you need to be heard and understood in order to make progress. We may focus on the past, the present or both. Often, present difficulties or distress can be connected with past experience. This can make things feel confused as we sometimes use old ways to solve new problems, even if this is unhelpful.
What now?
Message Alice to arrange a first meeting and find out how we could work together and whether this is right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a UK Chartered, HCPC registered, Counselling Psychologist. I use an integrative approach which incorporates the modalities I trained in and I supplement these with useful and effective strategies from other psychological approaches and coaching methods :).
I am trained in EMDR and working toward accreditation in 2024. I completed training to carry out ADHD diagnosis, assessment, psychosocial education and support with UKAAN at Kings College London in 2024. I am currently in training to deliver Pesso Boyden Psychomotor Therapy and will refresh my Cognitive Analytic Therapy skills later in the year.
