About me

Hello, I’m Ali (she/her). I’m a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor living in Sheffield. I offer a warm, welcoming, compassionate environment, whether online or in person, where you can explore your feelings without feeling judged, criticised or labelled.

The main approach I use is Person-Centred therapy, supporting you as you explore your personal challenges, emotions, beliefs, behaviours, and worldview. Through this you gain more awareness of your choices, working towards freedom from anything that may hinder your progress and achieving the self-empowerment you desire. In addition, as an integrated therapist, I incorporate different therapeutic ideas and relevant approaches based on your unique needs and circumstances, while offering empathy, compassion and effective support.

Regardless of all the many different Therapy Theories, when it comes down to it, I think of our work as journeying together for your choices, freedom and self-empowerment.

I have worked with adults facing a diverse range of challenges, including bereavement and loss, domestic abuse, disability or health-related issues, caring responsibilities, agoraphobia, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), low self-esteem, personal identity, personal development, ethical polyamory, church hurt, unconventional relationships, discrimination and spirituality.

Diversity and Equality

While I provide therapy services to everyone, I am particularly passionate about working with individuals from diverse, minority, oppressed, or marginalised communities. I wanted to become a therapist specifically to be able to do this and provide a warm, safe, relevant, professional, and ethical service - where our mutually diverse lived experiences are naturally integrated from the outset, rather than treated as an afterthought. While I may not know everything, I am committed to being an ally and have lived experience of mainstream discrimination in many forms. All are valued and welcomed here, and I have had the privilege of working with individuals from different backgrounds, valuing and respecting their unique journeys.

Please take time to explore my website (link above), and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you'd like to arrange a complimentary 20-minute introductory session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Each session lasts 50 minutes (online and in-person - Sheffield).

I prefer payment by bank transfer for convenience.

I am able to offer a limited number of concessionary places at any one time, to ensure that those unable to afford therapy still have access to mental health services. Please feel free to talk with me about this. There is often a waiting list for these places.

Further information

I understand first-hand the challenges of finding the right therapist and starting therapy. That's why I aim to provide you with the information I wish I had known when I was searching for my own therapist years ago. I want you to feel informed and comfortable with your decision to work with me. Please take your time to explore my website (link above), and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you'd like to arrange a friendly, no obligation complimentary 20-minute introductory/exploratory session (online or phone), so we can say hello and see if we want to work together.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warmest wishes,

Ali.
