About me

Hello and welcome. I am Alexia, an Accredited Psychotherapist, and fellow traveller in life.

Life can be challenging at times and this can lead us to feeling lost, upset, angry, confused, overwhelmed, anxious, lonely, depressed and unsure if we can cope with everyday challenges and/or bigger decisions.

Sometimes it is clear why we feel this way, for example:

  • financial pressures,
  • health concerns,
  • family relationships, and/or
  • work-related issues.

Other times it feels like these feelings can come out of nowhere.

Whether short-term or deeply entrenched, our problems can feel all absorbing, leaving us feeling stuck, depleted, with low self-esteem and decreased ability to make the most of life. In other periods, we can feel curious and want to understand better how we create our patterns in our life, why we make the decisions we do (or the ones we don’t) and/or how we build meaningful relationships.

Whatever your reasons for exploring if therapy would be helpful for you, you will find a warm, non-judgemental space in our sessions together.

How I can help

I offer a warm, confidential space for us to meet and explore what may be distressing you as well as your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values, aspirations, challenges and/or joys. The aim of our exploration together is to better understand yourself and how you relate to your difficulties and feelings at this point in your life. With a deeper appreciation of how you respond to situations and why, new ways to relate to yourself and others can emerge.

During our sessions, we work together to identify and get a better understanding of your patterns as we experience them together. I pay particular attention to how your present situation can be influenced by your past, and how this may be shaping our work together in the sessions. To facilitate this, I stay open to your experience in a non-judgemental way, ask questions, reflect back on aspects of your life, and may offer what I experience in our sessions, so we can examine them from a different viewpoint together.

How I work

I believe we are all fundamentally unique, and thus one single theory or approach cannot work for everyone. I work in an integrative way, bringing together my values and a range of theories to best meet your personal aims and growth. From the start, we can discuss your aims and how we may move towards them together. Our meetings occur at the same time every week either for an agreed period or on an open-ended basis with a regular review.

Our first session

If you are thinking about starting therapy, why not contact me to arrange an initial session?

In this session, we can have the opportunity to:

  • start exploring what has brought you to this moment in your life,
  • experience what it is like to be talking to each other, and
  • asking any questions you may have.

We can then decide if we would like to work together and, if appropriate, agree a regular day and time to meet.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
