Counselling and Psychotherapy for adults and young people

About us

At ACT, we believe counselling should be available to everyone who wishes to access it. We are committed to offering effective, compassionate and affordable counselling to young people, young adults and adults, both in person and online.

Whatever has brought you to counselling, we offer a warm, safe and confidential space where you can talk openly, feel heard and explore what is happening for you without judgement.

You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, overwhelm or difficulties with your mental health. You may be struggling with ADHD, motivation, organisation, emotional regulation or managing the demands of everyday life. Perhaps you are facing difficulties within relationships, family challenges, changes in your relationships or the impact of past experiences.

Sometimes life itself can leave us feeling uncertain or stuck. Starting or leaving education, entering employment, changing careers, moving home, navigating relationships or facing important life decisions can all bring pressure and uncertainty. You may feel lost, overwhelmed, unmotivated or unsure about what to do next.

Counselling can give you the space to slow down, make sense of your thoughts and feelings, explore your options and develop a greater understanding of yourself and what matters to you. We can support you to make decisions that feel right for you and navigate life's changes with greater clarity and confidence.

We also recognise the particular pressures that can come with school, college and university. Students may be managing workloads, deadlines, exams, expectations, friendships and questions around identity and belonging. We offer support through these challenges while recognising that education is just one part of a much bigger picture.

At ACT, you don't need to be experiencing a particular mental health difficulty to benefit from counselling. Sometimes you simply need a safe space to pause, reflect and make sense of where you are.

Our approach is warm, inclusive and non-judgemental. We work collaboratively with you, respecting your individual experiences, needs and aspirations. We offer space for exploration, reflection, self-understanding and discovery, helping you approach the messiness of life with greater curiosity, creativity and perspective.

We all need support sometimes, and asking for help can be difficult. At ACT, we honour each person's individual journey with acceptance, compassion and respect.

If you feel now is the right time for you, please get in touch. We would be happy to hear from you and explore how counselling might support you.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
